www.telegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/9115575/The-state-penalises-women-who-are-childless-and-unmarried-I-might-be-single-but-Im-not-a-failure.html

Methinks she protests too much and should get out more. Isn't she the one that had a thing with Boris?

she's not good enough for MN ninah

ninah · 02/03/2012 18:47

I only skim read but she is complaining that there is no support network for single women of a certain age and it makes them drink chardonnay at noon? I really don't get her problem
maybe she should start a website, petsnet?

KatieScarlett2833 · 02/03/2012 18:47

pmsl at petsnet

brilliant

ninah · 02/03/2012 18:49

ah, I've just realised what the acronym means
SACs lol
sadsacs?

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 02/03/2012 18:54

What on earth is "a well known hostess"? Am I a social failure because I don't know any? How do you get well known, and well known by who? They dont sound like very nice people. Don't most people just pick their friends based on who they feel relaxed and have good chat with?

PamPerdbrat · 02/03/2012 19:01

"History tells us that every society needs a social group to pick on in order to assuage its fears, particularly when times are bad. Once, homosexuals, Jews and black people fell into this category. Now it?s no longer acceptable to persecute such minorities; it is the single and childless female, or SAC, who is subject to choler and discrimination."

That's a bit OTT to say the least!

PamPerdbrat · 02/03/2012 19:04

" And don?t get me started on maternity leave (up to 12 months!)"

Yes. That would be to stop discrimination against working mothers. It's the law.

Why does the resentment? Maybe she wasnt picked up enough as a child.

She's not really doing this group of women any favours though with that article! She probably has been ditched by her old friends because she's so awful. With that attitude, what has she got to offer conversationally round a dinner table?

TheEdibleWoman · 02/03/2012 19:21

Maybe she's got a point, in that childless women are viewed negatively by some people - but women with chidren are viewed just as negatively by others, for example lots of employers.

Really, women can't win whatever we do, but I think she's aming her vitriol in the wrong direction.

Love in? Blimey Blush

scaryteacher · 02/03/2012 19:27

I think her age is her problem; she's 43, will be 44 this year, and so she's about to disappear into those 15 years of life where you are too old to be 'relevant' and too young to be part of the 'silver' brigade.

Time is something she can do nothing about.

I have also pointed out on the DT website that we are known as the nest of vipers, but something is wrong with their comments section and it got wiped.

It's a terrible article. Just terrible. To compare being single and childless with being black/homosexual or Jewish is idiotic. The friends are either invented or stupid.

CalamityLame · 02/03/2012 19:30

I think that article was a disgrace. What a load of utter bollocks.

She is pigeon holing both childless women and women with children, and life is not that simple. Implying that having children makes your life easier makes me want to 'punch her in the face' or whatever act of violence she says that the baby names boards make her want to commit.

I do write loads of crap on MN, mainly because of the lack of opportunity to say it in RL.

She is a self centred, whinging twat.

CalamityLame · 02/03/2012 19:34

Sorry, also agree re terrible comparisons to gay/black/Jewish people.

Got a bit blinded by fury, compounded by being stuck on a train trying to get home on a Friday night.

ItsOnlyAQuestion · 02/03/2012 19:36

Who cares what it thinks.

LineRunner · 02/03/2012 19:40

She doesn't know too much about Euripides either.

LittleAlbert · 02/03/2012 19:40

Can you imagine returning to work after mat leave with her as your boss?

Jellykat · 02/03/2012 19:46

All i can add is whatever she's got in that cup must taste vile, judging by the look on her face..

LineRunner · 02/03/2012 19:51

Just for using the expression '[husband of] a well known London hostess' she should be taken out and strapped to a railway track.

KatieScarlett2833 · 02/03/2012 19:52

Anyone else think Pet came on here thinking she'd be a hit, her being such a well known hostess (round here that is a euphamism for a hooker).

She started a Pet-ulant AIBU, got flambeed or troll-hunted and wrote that tripe as revenge?

If so Pet, have you tried Nethuns?

Even the Baby Name threads though are often very witty.

ItsOnlyAQuestion · 02/03/2012 20:00

I do like Boris Bollox.
