it's impressive, but you also have to put the languages in their family groups to see how he can learn so many i.e.
english, german, dutch, afrikaans, then
french, italian, spanish, catalan, then separately,
greek,
russian,
hebrew.

once you can speak one language from the group the rest fall into place. the skill is in having the time to learn the five different 'families'

i wonder what he is going to do with all of them?

Sidge · 25/02/2012 15:47

I wonder how he'll use them. Translator?

I do admire people who pick up languages easily as I struggle - I'm not a natural linguist.

Wow indeed!! I'm so jealous!

Pimsleur grad in many of those I'd say..... They should hire him as an advertisement :)

What a cunning linguist! (Sorry, had to be done! Grin)

I went to university with a guy who could speak 8 languages fluently, mostly European languages, but also Cantonese. I was very impressed.

(We weren't doing a totally unrelated degree.)

Wow - just wow

I was an english teacher abroad and met a fellow english teacher who was dutch so spoke the two languages (not jealous) , picked up spanish in a second and who could basically communicate with anyone he came across.

Bloody fantastic.

Wow, that's impressive and puts me to shame. From what I can tell he has a very good accent too.
If you learn Spanish, it must be then relatively easy to learn Italian, Catalan and so on, but still very impressive.
