I noticed her because of the eyepatch, but returned to her articles most weeks because they were good.

Devora · 22/02/2012 18:30

Sad I have been reading her articles for years.

Pagwaatch · 22/02/2012 18:31

They have been talking about ger for most of the day on radio 5.
Amazing woman. Terrible news

OneHandFlapping · 22/02/2012 18:32

A brave woman, and a shining example that women do not need to be relegated to "soft" journalism.

It is awful. The situation feels so helpless out there - why is nothing being done? Ah I know - no oil.

SerialKipper · 22/02/2012 20:10

Sad Such an amazing woman, doing such an important task.

Raising a Wine to Marie here.

I am just so frustrated that the international community are just words and no action over this. The goverment of Syria is relentlessly murdering its own citizens and we are doing nothing to stop it.

How many children need to die FFS? I felt exactly the same frustrations during the Israeli bombardment of Gaza.

I met her once, at a Women in Journalism do. She spoke so powerfullly about the horrors she had seen, and the importance of bearing witness. Her last report from Homs is so moving - about the death of a child.

The government forces are deliberately murdering not only their own people but journalists, including Syrian citizen journalists, to attempt to stop the truth reaching the outside world. They are also murdering doctors and people trying to get in to offer humanitarian aid - several were found shot with their hands tied behind their back yesterday. It looks horribly as if they won't stop until they have exterminated every man, woman and child in Homs.

Incredible woman, this situation makes me so mad, the western world turns a blind eye, this is one despot they don't want disposed so have a laissez faire attitude. In the meantime they are all preparing to attack Iran.

A great and inspirational woman and martyr.
