Fecal Transplants

Well I suppose this is one for the Poo Troll, but I would rather drink a couple of bottles of Yakult.

I saw this and wondered if it would turn up on MN!

It sounds completely gross, but I suppose they know what they're doing, and it is only for extreme cases which have failed to respond to anything else.

I don't think Yakult would be up to the job. It doesn't contain the full spectrum of bacteria from a healthy bowel. If it gets rid of Clostridium Difficile (which I think is most common in elderly patients whose gut flora have been interfered with by antibiotics) then that's wonderful.

I'm not sure I could choke it down without vomitting if I knew what it was though.

I am sure that if I had a C-difficile infection I'd consider it, but it does rather make me want to heave at the thought.
