DH just texted me to tell me this. Our MP is on Big Brother? This is a sign of the end times, right? What on earth is going on?

No. Please no....

NotQuiteCockney · 06/01/2006 09:07

Also, maggot from the GLC.

I'm pretty sure there's something Revelations about this.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/01/2006 09:07

Something in revelations, rather.

he is my biggest nightmare to be stuck in a house with for 3 seconds never mind 3 weeks

you just couldnt win an argument with him, he thinks he is so right all the time

smug bast*rd

i would end up lamping him

cant believe he is your mp nqc, do you like him?

Twiglett · 06/01/2006 09:09

um isn't he the representative and voice of the people who voted for him?

doesn't he have a responsibility to be available to his constituents and represent them in parliament

what an arse

(although I did like his attitude at the American thing )

mummytosteven · 06/01/2006 09:09

after his graceless performance on Newsnight after the election with Jeremy Paxman, I just can't see him winning hearts ands minds by being on BB....

NotQuiteCockney · 06/01/2006 09:13

Well, I did like him. Before.

I liked him vs Paxman, I thought he did well. And I liked him vs the Americans.

But this? Gah.

It has been very interesting watching him slime his way across the carpet in BB house. Although (like most of the planet) I dislike many traits of his personality (his lack of morals, greed, arrogance to name a few..) he does make very interesting viewing. I enjoyed seeing him mentally sum up his housemates and start to make typical mp like bonding moves with such cringeworthy seeking for common links, "my people know your people" type stuff. Not sure why they have incl the basketball player. He doesn?t seem to be up to it mentally - but then BB happily plonked Jackie Stalone in there in a state so nothing new. Got to admit it, to my shame, I still love BB

harpsichordcarrier · 06/01/2006 09:15

oh god I loathe this man
I actually used a very bad word to describe him when his loathesome mug popped up last night
dh looked rather appalled at my language
agree nqc last days of western civilisation etc etc
I hear the thunder of hooves....

NotQuiteCockney · 06/01/2006 09:17

I've ... I've never seen BB (celebrity or not). I think I saw five minutes of the first (?) series, after some hairdresser told me the lesbian nun looked like me (she didn't).

This, combined with Maggot being on, has me almost tempted. But not quite.

Enid · 06/01/2006 09:18

Dh and I were ultimately old and curmudgeonly last night. 'Who is she? Who is she? Who is he? I've never heard of him'

franke · 06/01/2006 09:18

Agree with Twiglett - you are all paying his MP salary. For this? According to Private Eye he hasn't been in the Commons that much (to participate in key votes for example) since he was elected.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/01/2006 09:20

Yeah, I remember reading he was out touring something or something? Grrr.

The thing is, he was the only viable anti-war option we had on the ballot. We felt lucky to have a viable anti-war option.

OP posts:
franke · 06/01/2006 09:22

Yeah, nqc, but a viable anti-war option doesn't necessarily equate to improved public services - which is what's needed round your way, surely.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/01/2006 09:23

Our public services aren't too bad. And I do think that a lot of that comes down to the council, surely? Ok, we could do with more income redistribution, but that's a national thing, and not something Labour does well at, at the moment.

OP posts:
franke · 06/01/2006 09:30

Okay, fair enough, I don't live there, I don't know. But I understood it is one the poorest boroughs, and could surely do with a MP who gives voice to the constituents' concerns on more than one issue.
I suspect he'll say the BB thing is for charity, but you can bet your life the real agenda will be for GG for score some cheap political points - GG only ever looks out for himself first and foremost as far as I can see.

aelita · 06/01/2006 09:38

NotQuiteCockney, has he done any constituency surgeries yet?? He seems a tad busy with his media commitments to bother representing the people he was supposedly elected to serve....

Twiglett · 06/01/2006 09:43

Just out of interest

who are maggot and preston and traci? .. looked on bb website and there don't seem to be any profiles?

Caligula · 06/01/2006 09:43

Well I'm delighted he's on. It'll make it interesting.

I think with regard to voicing his constituents' concerns, he'd probably argue that as BB has an audience, this is a very effective way of bringing their concerns to a larger audience.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/01/2006 09:47

Maggot is from the GLC. Dunno who the rest are.

(Seriously, out of all of them, the only ones I recognise are GG, Maggot, and Michael Barrymore. Oh, and Dennis Rodman, but only barely.)

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 06/01/2006 09:48

Hmm, I can see that argument Caligula, but is he really on there talking about the problems of new Bengali immigrants? Or social exclusion? Or overstretch NHS resources (with no translators for the immigrants)?

OP posts:
Furball · 06/01/2006 09:49

one of them is a decoy pretending to be a celebrity but because of the line up - I wasn't sure which one!

Twiglett · 06/01/2006 09:50

so who are the GLC .. cos he doesn't look the type to be on the Greater London Council to me

Caligula · 06/01/2006 09:50

Well let's see. I'm pretty sure he'll get on to the war.

And I so want him to try and cop off with Rula!

aelita · 06/01/2006 09:58

Does anyone seriously believe Galloway gives a monkey's about his constituents? This guy's a walking self-publicity machine and he makes my skin crawl....the only welfare he's interested in is his own.
