I am sure this must be indescribably Painful for the parents , But I was thinking in bed - what if I had been selected for that Jury service....

I am soooooo emotional and i reckon that this would seriously affect me for the rest of my life (not saying it wouldnt for others natch).

I know you cant get out of Jury Service But God - how would you cope?

I'm meant to be doing Jury Service this week! Not in London though.

You can get out of it by being in a number of occupations - teacher, vicar, nurse, etc. and 'childcare' was one of the reasons you can put down to have it postponed.

DS is 15 months and I look after him 3 days a week. I found the form so confusing and made such a mess of it I don't think they would have wanted me anyway

I'm not allowed to do jury service. And if I left my job, still couldn't for a further 10 years.

DH is a lawyer but I still think I have to do it if called. Maybe if he did criminal or was a barrister it would be different. MIL didn't have to as FIL was a police sargeant - not sure if that has changed either in the days of equal ops.

suedonim · 05/11/2003 23:30

Yes, I agree, Dinosaur. Justice has to be seen to be done, no matter what we think is the truth.

FairyMum · 06/11/2003 08:14

I couldn't do. I don't want to know the details because I know it will haunt me forever. I don't even read about it in the papers

I would just tell them I couldn't be objective and I am sure they want people who at least will try to be objective.

I have never known something to affect me so deeply as the murder of those two little angels. I find it very hard to watch any of the latest developments going on at the moment. It all brings it back to last summer when I was hoping every day that they would be found. I do beleive something terrible happened to them but in a way I don't want to delve any further. I just hope they both get put away and never see the light of day.

Dh said that yesterday Huntley admitted the girls died at his home.

turnupthebass · 06/11/2003 12:23

While what dadslib says is true, it is just so hard to imagine a scenario that could have taken place in that house that isnt the horrific events we all imagine.

Now he has admitted that he was the only one there I can't bring myself to consider any likelihood of innocence - though I acknowledge the possibility. and while I know that leaves me wide open to accusations of being influenced by the media and judging him before he has chance to defend himself it really is how I feel in this case.

It seems clear now that his lawyers are trying to reduce the charge to manslaughter, based on the 'beyond reasonable doubt' premise that nobody truly knows what happened in there.

I agree that to be on that jury would be truly awful, but also that to be part of the defence lawyers team would be incredibly difficult too.

Yes, that's weird, isn't it? The only thing I could think of was that he gave them illegal drugs to muck around with and it went horribly wrong. I hope that is the case because at least they wouldn't have known anything about it.

doormat · 06/11/2003 12:39

Twinkie your post was so right how I feel on the subject.

Maxine Carr is a disgrace to womanhood and her profession as a classroom assistant.
Whether she did it or not, she must of had an idea.
Remember on sky news her coming up to the cameras and showing the pictures or cards the girls had made for her just before they were arrested
that is evil and callous in itself.

if this person didnt intentionally kill these two girls why did he dispose of their bodies.if there was an accident why didnt he ring 999.if it was an accident how come both died.
these questions alone in my mind make him guilty.as for her to callously show the card theyd made knowing already these girls were dead makes her as guilty as them.
i adore my dp and would do almost anything in my power for him but cover up any murder is something i wouldnt do
