I bet his family did as well; I can't imagine losing my ds and he is only 3 years younger than this young man was when he died.

I know my Mum was praying she'd never have to read a letter like that when my db was posted to Afghanistan and he was in his 40s.

Iscreamtea · 17/11/2011 13:39

Heartbreaking but his parents must be very proud of him.

angelinterceptor · 17/11/2011 13:44

That is so hard to read - just like he said

Rosa · 17/11/2011 13:45

I heard the interview on Radio 2 it was very moving.....

edam · 17/11/2011 13:56

Welled up reading that. What a lovely young man. His family can be very proud, not only of his service, but of his character and his last words to them.

porcamiseria · 18/11/2011 16:18

in tears now

itsnotmyrealname · 18/11/2011 17:07

Wow, how sad but yet will probably really help over time. I bet his parents are very proud of him and rightly so.

OrmIrian · 18/11/2011 17:11

Oh lordy Sad

MackerelOfFact · 18/11/2011 17:19

Gosh, I shouldn't have read that at work! Heartbreaking and inspiring.

Lilyloo · 18/11/2011 17:20

I cannot imagine how precious that letter must be to his parents and how proud they must be , very Sad though.

veryquickchange · 18/11/2011 17:31

I just started sobbing loudly at the bit where he wrote about his mothers own 'smell'. I don't know why I found that particular bit so moving.

JaneFeestelijkBierdekijn · 18/11/2011 17:44

Oh God Sad

Greythorne · 18/11/2011 17:46

Should have a warning on it

What a brave yoing man.

Greythorne · 18/11/2011 17:47

veryquick

ScarlettIsWalking · 18/11/2011 20:01

Very moving :( what a young man.

ShutUppaYourFace · 18/11/2011 20:16

That letter is so gorgeous and I hope my boys feel the same about me when they're older. How proud must they be, but how heartbreaking Sad

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 18/11/2011 20:24

What an absolute credit to his family - I listened to the Radio 2 things with J.V, incredible what these families go through - Its one thing having a young lad sign up, its another remembering what happens to a whole community if something happens to them.

northernmonkey · 20/11/2011 09:24

WOW :(

DigOfTheNordicFirStump · 21/11/2011 20:33

Wow I am in tears, what a lovely boy he was.

marge2 · 21/11/2011 20:39

Oh Man. He was from near us. They are still always writing about him in our local paper all these months later.
