It's terrible, isn't it?

Sad
Saltire · 08/11/2011 18:39

Fault in the ejector seat mechanism maybe?

BBC news item here; investigation underway. Mechanical fault has to be something they'd examine for, hasn't it?

They were only just airborne again after the last fatality, and it was only last week they were flying at the memorial service for one of their own.

awful news, no fatalities for over 33 years and now two within a few months Sad

However it happened it's still someones' dad/husband/son/brother/aprtner. And they've lost him in tragic circumstances.
Actually I'm assuming a male, there is a female reds pilot too

Dreadful news - condolences to the family, the team and the wider RAFAT family; including JambalayaCodfishPie.

Very sad news. My ds (aged 10) will be sad, he has seen a few programmes about them, and was quite Sad when the crash happened in August.

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 08/11/2011 20:31

The Reds are close to my heart. Isn't it just so sad.

picklepepper · 08/11/2011 20:48

This is just heartbreaking - I can't believe that there have been 2 losses in such a short space of time. My thoughts are with the pilot's family and friends, and the rest of the Arrows, who must be absolutely devastated. Such a very sad day :(

spiderlight · 08/11/2011 20:49

So sad :( My DS will break his heart when he hears - we take him to see them at every opportunity. My heart goes out to the pilot's family and to all the team and ground crew.

MOSagain · 08/11/2011 21:28

saltire yes, in fact, I think there might be two females Sad

EdithWeston · 08/11/2011 21:39

Here is the official RAF statement made earlier today. Unsurprisingly, there is nothing within it to indicate the sex of the pilot.

EdithWeston · 09/11/2011 12:58

The RAF have now named the pilot as Flt Lt Sean Cunningham.
