The extra second

I heard on the radio this morning that tonight at midnight there is going to be an extra second added to 2006.
I came home and told DH about it and he said I must have heard the radio report wrong??? Now we are having an heated discussion about it....please tell me I wasnt wrong and that I heard correctly.
I cant find any info about it on the net, has anyone else heard the same????

DH says it is been added to 2005 as a LEAP second

I heard it too- don't think it's the first time it's happened either. Not sure how to spend it though....

earth rotaion is slightly slower

caused by the moon

so tey have to compensate for it and IIRC it last happened 8 years ago

yes what I meant was that we will have 2 12.00.00

like feb 29th which is length of year rather than length of day adjustments etc.

it makes no difference which day the second is added to just that it is added at all IYSWSIM
