Anyone watching Unreported World on Hydrocephalus in Uganda?

It's heartbreaking :(

I had no idea it was such a common condition. One mother bankrupted her family to take her son to the only hospital in sub-saharan Africa that can treat the condition in children.

Another poor woman couldn't even do that. Her husband left her, her mother was dead and her mil blamed her, saying that bad spirits were to blame. She called the baby 'burden'. :( The money that could have been spent on getting the child to hospital was instead used on a ceremony to get rid of the spirits.

:(

I saw it. It was incredibly moving.

I didn't see it - half sorry half glad. DS2 has hydrocephalus caused by premature birth. It is such a simple operation - even though it feels terrifying because it involves the brain. He is absolutely fine now (2) and it breaks my heart when I see pictures/read stories about children who weren't born in a country like this at a time like this.

I've searched on the internet for organisations that target hydrocephalus. I know there are groups that go into a country and teach their skills and do operations on eyes, for example. I'd like to donate to a group who do shunts. Was there any information about this on the programme?

Just looked up the programme and now have CURE hospital Uganda to donate to in DS2's name. Thanks LetTheSlaughterBeGincognito!

That's great Eye :) It was the CURE hospital that was featured in the documentary. I am skint atm but intend to start making a regular donation once I am back at work. What they do is simply amazing.
