I'm sure some of the lads will be genuinely chuffed he's gone to visit.

For myself, ...............

I can't imagine that anyone has said 'civilian casualties don't matter' - I'd like to see who said that!

my guess is they said 'inevitable' but it is only a guess!

That's not a quote from me Mistletoo..

Blandmum · 23/12/2005 18:17

'MB the casual way you accept civilian casualties I think belies a failure to even engage with the issue on any real emotional or logical level'
was your quote

Mistletoo · 23/12/2005 18:20

"It's not that civilian casualties happen, it's that they happen needlessly, and in most cases are expected. The reason it doesn't matter is because it happens to 'them' not 'us'."

Lol, Mistletoo! I did apologise!

I feel responsible. Everyone was happily moaning about TB when I turned up and mentioned my brother.

MB, you must be very proud of your DH. The fact that he kept the flag shows how well he engaged with the issue on an emotional level.
I know I'm very proud of my brother.

Would now be a good time to admit that I've discovered that I have an unnerving crush on Gordon Brown! or should that be

Blandmum · 23/12/2005 18:45

I'm sure you can get help, if you ask for it

I'm having a cushy time since dh is home now, and has been for quite a while. But I remember what it feels like to have your other half away, particularly at this time of the year.

I've been though enough in the past to feel that I have more than 'engage(d)with the issue on any real emotional or logical level'

homemama · 23/12/2005 18:52

DH is mortified and wittering on about what that says about him!
Although he did have a picture of Maggie on his wall at Uni. Funny how he's well left of me now!

Blandmum · 23/12/2005 18:54

lol!

monkeynutsroastingonanopenfire · 23/12/2005 19:50

"Imagine you were in a bombing crew over Peenemunde (sp? ) during ww2. You can drop your bombs and help to prevent the V2 rockets hitting London, but you might kill civilians, some of which might be slave labour, what do you do?" Just to be clear this was your post MB - I was reading it rather quickly trying to catch up but it flagged up my memory of an earlier post my Munqidh in a previous thread where he did say civilian casualties just happened and I challenged it with the question I again put in this thread. He was unequivocal and I've attributed some of that to you - soz.

Mistletoe, you've quoted me putting forward an argument not quoting someone out of turn. If you what to engage with it, please feel free!

monkeynutsroastingonanopenfire · 23/12/2005 19:50

by munzsdh, I mean..

Blandmum · 23/12/2005 19:53

and I then when on to ask what PD would do not to say that I thouught this was an ethics free choice! As I said, this is not a black and white decision. So I am obviously not forgetting the casualties!

Blandmum · 23/12/2005 19:57

Given that I am possibly the only Mnetter to have been on the phone to her dh jsut before he was almost hit by a scud missle (it missed them by a few 100 m) I think I have quite a good emotional and locical engagement with the issue
