The lawyer representing Gary Glitter has told The Sky Report that his client shared a bed with a 10-year-old girl.

The singer is currently in prison in Vietnam having been charged with committing obscene acts with children.

Le Thank Kinh said Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, has said he is innocent of sexual abuse but admits spending time in bed with those making the accusations.

However, he said that a 10-year-old girl came into bed with him because she was scared.

Glitter's lawyer said: "When a 10-year-old girl stayed it was originally in the guest room of his villa.

Glitter singing in a Vietnam bar "But in the night she came into his room and said there were ghosts and mosquitoes and she was afraid.

"Mr Glitter said because they were close friends she could spend the night with him."

Glitter is currently in prison in the town of Vung Tau, where he was living in a comfortable villa until his arrest.

Authorities hope to conclude their investigation into his behaviour inside two months.

Sky News has obtained exclusive footage of Glitter performing drunkenly in a local bar.

He claimed he moved to the area for a quiet life, but locals say he was often seen drinking in the town's bars with local girls.

Does he think everyone else is stupid or what????

Why was she there anyway??

Pixiefish · 08/12/2005 12:53

isn't he using a similar defence to Michael Jackson?

I think he is stupid yes BUT MJ got off and Gary Glitter may well get off as well

misdee · 08/12/2005 12:54

all i can say is b*llocks.

shoot the man.

GemgleBells · 08/12/2005 12:54

This man has to be kidding. Who the hell is going to believe that crap? Shows how much "rehabilitation" you et in prison.

Epiffany · 08/12/2005 12:55

Because they were super best friends of course. Did you not know men of that age are meant to have 10 yr old girls as special friends for sleepovers?
am apoplexing as I type
Never thought I'd see anyone I hated more than M Thatcher or Ian Paisley but reckon I might have now...

I have to say Michael Jackson sprang instantly to my mind as well.

wessexgirl · 08/12/2005 14:45

Did anyone see the doc on BBC3 (?) t'other day about a reporter trying to track him down and get him to seek help for his behaviour?

Cambodia and Vietnam are of course the obvious countries to move to if you want people to believe you aren't interested in sex with young girls...

"A quiet life" indeed!

teeavee · 08/12/2005 14:53

I don't honestly believe that rehabilitation can ever work fully with people like this, since they don;t believe they are doing anythnig wrong, and what's more, they are determined to get away with it...

ruty · 08/12/2005 14:58

what i don't understand is plenty of non famous western men are still sleeping with children in these countries every day. Why don't the police crack down on the whole industry? Glitter is just a drop in the ocean.

MyXmasPuddingSixpenceworth · 09/12/2005 12:38

The thing is, people like this are so mentally warped that they truly don't see what they are doing is wrong. I don't think you can help them or cure them because I think it is a serious mental defect. I think the only thing you can do is prevent them from acting on their (feel sick even typing this) desires. My vote is for locking them up for life, if they are out and about they will find a way to do what their sick mind tells them they need to do.

beejay · 09/12/2005 13:20

I'm really hoping he gets a firing squad. i think that will send an extremely clear message to child abusers thinking that southeast asia is an easy place to prey on young children..

inameeting · 09/12/2005 13:32

whatever happens to him his royalties should be signed over to the NSPCC, not that anyone plays or buys his stuff anymore
