When he was appointed as a specialist advisor to David cameron.

And 'call me Dave' didn't know about it.

AIBU to think that the PM should have known about it?

Of course he should!

Just shows how much more of this story is still to come - and how much NI have been hiding. It beggars belief how much they think they have the right to do/not say.

AuntieMonica · 22/08/2011 22:30

YANBU to think he should have known, but 'Dave' IBU if he thinks we're going to believe he didn't

"Oh what a tangled web we weave"...................

Valetude · 22/08/2011 22:41

Course he knew

I forgot to say, NO YANBU.

I am getting a little fed up of what "call me Dave" doesn't/didn't know, to be honest.

Even my DCs don't get away with "Mum ! (whine) I didn't know".

Even if they didn't. Wink

I don't believe he did know - it was such a huge conflict of interests for Coulson to be employed by the PM and NI and politically very messy. He should never have employed him in the first place though.

fabanflabby · 23/08/2011 13:20

Is it fair to say we are all getting a bit pig sick of what Cameron is / was 'unaware' of and the arse covering that is clearly going on.

This is going to get very very uncomfortable for Cameron now me thinks and rightly so. Coulson should never have been employed!

It'll be interesting to watch this drama unfold to see who Cameron blames this bad decision on?

sharpey178 · 31/08/2011 09:45

Wish I had a job where where I could be rubbish at it... or worse than that be potentially illegal... and then still get paid once I get sacked! How the other half live eh. I wouldn't be surprised if Cameron comes undone eventually because of this...

I haven't read the full story but isn't it the case that the pay from NI was Coulson's severance pay from his contract ending prematurely? It's not like he was still in their employ, more that they were paying up what he was owed.

chandellina · 01/09/2011 08:32

correct Cogito. Which is why the story died. It's certainly not unusual to get severance pay and depending on the contract or years of service the term of it could overlap the time of starting a new job - for anyone not just the likes of Coulson.
It would be very different indeed if he had been a paid consultant at NI or something like that while working for the PM.
