When criminal children happen to good parents

I've just been listening to today's iPM on Radio 4 (iplayer) (podcast) and it brought me to tears.

A mother who sounds a good mother talking about how her daughter went off the rails and how powerless she and her husband were to stop it. So many people think that if parents do the right things they will have children who are a credit to them but sometimes it doesn't work that way and to be honest I find that really scary.

It's so true!

BUT most kids come good again, so hold onto that!

True, and in this case that seems to have mostly happened, although the poor mum still sounds traumatised.
