Why would NOTW journos hack Sara Payne's phone....

... when they gave her that phone themselves? The story that the phone given to Sara Payne by NOTW so that they could stay in contact was hacked just doesn't make sense to me. Anyone else? If they were the only ones who could leave messages for her, why bother? I'm firmly of the opinion now that the hired hacker was offering his services to other journos.

I don't think the phone was restricted to calls to and from the NotW. However, it certainly is easier to gain access to the voicemails if you're the one paying the bills.

They were after a story involving a relationship between Sara Payne and one of the investigating police oficers. It was a load of bollocks of course. Just heard him on Radio 5 talking about it - he thinks his phone was also hacked.
