Should we be more vigilant about other people's children?

The NSPCC is urging people to report suspected abuse by text message on 88858. Great idea? Or could it make people trigger happy?

Will it make any difference?

IIRC a lot of the tragic neglect/murder cases in the last few years neighbours and other people did report their concerns but nothing was done.

OTOH if it is too easy to report, people will do so maliciously (we were once reported to the police by people who knew us and could quite easier have come across the road to speak to us but chose instead to report us. The police came out but thought it was funny and went away again)
