Should David Cameron resign?

Given that Paul Stephenson and John Yates have done so over their 'misjudgements' when hiring Neil Wallis should DC be accountable for his poor judgement in hiring Andy Coulson?

I love that Tory people assume that those not in support of DC are Labour.

I don't have an allegiance to any political party.

They are all arses. Just mho.

That's the one thing they ALL forget. They are supposed to run the country for US. The dim-wit general public. Who none of them can ever relate to, having never been a member.

rainbowtoenails · 19/07/2011 00:01

Yes DC should go, as should james murdoch, for that payment he authorised.

reelingintheyears · 19/07/2011 00:02

Paddy Ashdown warned DC about Andy Coulson as did Vince Cable and even Neil Kinnoch aswell.

Libs and Labour...not exactly Labour people. (except for Kinnoch)

And they were doing him a favour.

I WISH he would resign, but even more than that I wish he would be sacked or jailed.

Jux · 19/07/2011 00:13

I have been wondering why on earth he hasn't faced a vote of no confidence yet.

piloi · 19/07/2011 00:37

No I don't think so although I think the hiring of Coulson was a massive mistake, previous Prime Ministers have done worse and not been forced to go.

LittlePushka · 19/07/2011 00:39

Well George osbourne has been lying very low of late - perhaps he is maneuvering himself into the replacement spot......

He must surely know that folk will want to know chapter and verse as to what justified Andy Coulsons departure six months ago. It cannot just be the association with hacking/NOTW because it seems he knew about this at the time he was hired and DC was seemingly warned as to its effect at that time..

What did DC learn since that led to Andy Coulson going....mmmm?

bkgirl · 19/07/2011 00:40

I think a whole lot needs to be arrested....anyone on the Murdoch take and selling the country for it....lets hope the old bill cleans up it's act and does the job.

Mollythulu · 19/07/2011 00:48

I'm all for calling for a vote of (no) confidence - but who would replace him? Seriously, would we have to have another General Election - if George I'm-a-royal-disguised-as-a-politician Osbourne gets into power, I'll be livid. (Because of course, that's what will make a massive impact on the primeministership!)

maypole1 · 19/07/2011 08:29

Jux because labour know red ed is not up to the job no point ousting the pm if you have no one to put in his place

flippinada · 19/07/2011 09:02

Leaping in blind here, but wouldn't he be replaced by Nick Clegg as acting PM if he resigns? Is there political precedence for this? (goes off to google).

If, and it's a big if he does resign, he's no going to be replaced by Ed Milliband. Not immediately anyway and not unless there's a general election.

I mean, obviously Ed M wouldn't be PM unless elected.

I'm praying he resigns before he damages the country any further. How many people who voted Tory in the last election actually wanted the destruction of the NHS, the selling off of our forests, the raising of student fees to 9K, etc? None of this was promised by the Tories - in fact they claimed they'd protect the NHS etc.

Let alone all those who voted Lib Dem and found that this meant their votes were being used to back up a Tory govt.

No - we've now had a chance to see that, bad though Labour were, the Tories are EVEN WORSE.

And David Cameron just lied to get elected and lies once elected to help all his powerful cronies who bankrolled him. He doesn't give a damn about the ordinary electorate, or the future of this country. He's just a shiny PR man who'll say anything to get elected and say anything once elected. But what he actually does will have no connection whatsoever to what he says - see the valuable thread on the non-U turn in the NHS current on mumsnet, to see how you can't believe a word he says - and how the ories under Cameron are determined to destroy the most valuable things our country has.

He should leave with dignity before he's pushed out as a laughing stock.

And then call another general election.

flippinada · 19/07/2011 09:14

Thank you for clarfiying GiddyPickle. So his resignation is extremely unlikely then, I would think?

Does anyone know if there is a precedent for this happening?

I wonder how he will come out of this.

flippinada · 19/07/2011 09:16

Of course there's a precedent, Margaret Thatcher. How the hell did I forget about that?

So there could be a leadership contest. I thinks that's the most likely scenario isn't it, if he does go.

Nancy66 · 19/07/2011 09:34

I can't see why he should resign.

All very well for these people to come forward now and claime they warned DC about hiring Andy Coulson - I very much doubt that.

piloi · 19/07/2011 10:59

No, could you imagine the reaction on the bond and currency markets if the Government fell and there was going to be another general election.

Mollythulu · 19/07/2011 11:15

Just wikied (?) this -

"Typically, when a parliament passes a vote of no confidence in an existing government, the head of state must respond in one of two ways:
ask another individual, who he believes will command the confidence of parliament, to try to form a government
dissolve the elected parliament and call a general election to elect a new parliament"

Can't see it happening tbh, and if it does, he'll only hand over to George "Royal Knob" Osbourne.

ThePathanKhansWoman · 19/07/2011 11:27

They should all bloody resign and put Dennis Skinner in charge Grin.

MaMattoo · 19/07/2011 11:35

Yes. But then I don't like him anyway. He is way too shiny and smug! And I feel that inside his head he is laughing at all of us....
