Sean Hoare became the first of his former colleagues to go on the record in denouncing Coulson has allegedly been found dead at home according to Guardian
www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/jul/18/news-of-the-world-sean-hoare

He was in the process of dumping murdoch in it in the states.

I hope they do a decent job on the forensics.

His name is an anagram for "a sane hero". That would be a very good crossword clue for a News International paper...

sisterserena · 19/07/2011 20:14

It is a statistical fact that whistle-blowing on corporate corruption is 100 times more life-threatening than using drugs & alcohol. I would back my chances of surviving class A drug use over surviving endangering the billion dollar empire of a power-hungry media mogul any day!

Just what are some people defending here? Me no understand. Does the fact that a person had addiction issues explain his death prior to an autopsy? Are we supposed to accept his death as the inevitable result of his lifestyle? Should the fact of his addiction issues remove the element of suspicion from his (timely) death? I know a ton of people with addiction issues - hard drugs, not sherbet dips and cola bottles - and if I heard that they had died whilst they were embroiled in an international scandal I would be shocked by their death, suspicious, and demanding to know the cause of death, and for there to be a full and thorough investigation.

When billion dollar business interests are at stake, people become expendable. Simple.

good post sisterserena

claig · 19/07/2011 20:55

good post, sisterserena

telsa · 19/07/2011 21:00

I find it odd to throw the drugs/alk thing in right away. People were up in arms about speculation on the death of that man from Jackass (drink driving) prior to the official report - and quite right too. It is not for us to leap in with our assumptions, unless we have ulterior motives for so doing or are being a little insensitive.

kamarastar · 19/07/2011 21:08

well said sisterserena Grin

WiiDram · 19/07/2011 21:11

Convenient, innit Hmm

And what sisterserena said too.

Nancy66 · 19/07/2011 21:57

I don't understand why people think his death his 'convenient' - who for?

BitOfFun · 19/07/2011 21:59

The Murdochs, the police and the government, I presume? Depending on what his testimony would have revealed. I don't know enough about the ins and outs though. Does anybody know what he was expected to say?

Nancy66 · 19/07/2011 22:03

what testimony?
He wasn't due to appear before any committee - he gave interviews to NYT and Panorama - pretty much repeating what was already known.

BitOfFun · 19/07/2011 22:04

Is that right? Well, that puts the kybosh on the conspiracy theories then. Is there a chance he would have been called?

Nancy66 · 19/07/2011 22:08

No - honestly he would have made such an unreliable witness.

I don't want to be mean, I liked the bloke but he really, really wasn't a big or key player in this.

claig · 19/07/2011 22:18

well he was big enough to be interviewed by the New York Times and he worked with Coulson. We don't know if he would have appeared in any trial or future committee. What he might have told the public might have shocked them. Maybe the public wouldn't believe any attempts to discredit him just because he used drugs and was an alcoholic.

BitOfFun · 19/07/2011 22:19

Well, that's made me a bit more circumspect about the foul play aspect. It says a lot, though, about quite how prepared we are to believe in the corruption of big business, the police and the government. There seems to be nobody with integrity left.

Oh, but I've just explained what I'm typing to DP, who says you must be a Murdoch plant Grin

Nancy66 · 19/07/2011 22:29

the NYT were desperately clamouring around for ext NOTW people to interview - he (and McMullan) was all they could get.

I'm not discrediting him but Sean was even further down the NI food chain than McMullan

Hummingbirds · 19/07/2011 22:32

TalkinPeace2, thanks for the Newsthump link! Must be the best piece I've read on this story... This one was not far off the mark too: Britain resigns and hands itself in to the police

claig · 19/07/2011 22:37

yes but there is a shortage of witnesses. Is it McMullan or is it Mulcane? Anyway, he is never off our TV screens, they even had him on Newsnight. Why didn't the BBC interview Sean?

claig · 19/07/2011 22:38

apart from on that Panorama programme

Nancy66 · 19/07/2011 22:38

It's Paul McMullan and Glen Mulcaire

Hummingbirds · 19/07/2011 22:41

Craig Murray writes: "With the exception of Kelly, this is possibly the most suspicious death of my lifetime." www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2011/07/death-of-sean-hoare/

Nancy66, I don't understand. Sean Hoare was the only witness who could have testified that Coulson was lying through his teeth. With him out of the way, Coulson's claims of innocence can go unchallenged. How can you possibly say Hoare's death changes nothing?

claig · 19/07/2011 22:46

I haven't been following what McMullan has been saying. But just looked up a Guardian article. It seems that McMullan says that Coulson "must have known". But Sean Hoare went further and said
"The New York Times last week quoted another former News of the World journalist, Sean Hoare, who said he had played illegally hacked voicemail messages to Coulson when they worked at the Sun and that Coulson had "actively encouraged" him to hack messages at the News of the World. In a BBC radio interview".

mrsdonkeybucket · 19/07/2011 22:47

I am suspicious.

Nancy66 · 19/07/2011 22:48

No idea who Craig Murray is.

Coulson is on bail - he's not going unchallenged.

I genuinely believe that Andy will be absolutely gutted at Sean's death - not happy in the least - they were friends going back a long, long way....

claig · 19/07/2011 22:51

McMullan is back on Newsnight again

Nancy66 · 19/07/2011 22:53

God, not again....is he wearing his cream suit? !
