OP posts:
Tillyscoutsmum · 05/07/2011 18:12

Apparently, officers investigating phone hacking have now seized the phones of Holly Chapman and Jessica Wells Sad

JustineMumsnet · 05/07/2011 18:12

Oops twice posted.

LadyBeagleEyes · 05/07/2011 18:13

Well that was quick of the mark. Well done Justine and MNHQ.

Tolalola · 05/07/2011 18:16

Theres a huge boycott movement brewing on facebook! Its backed by an MP as well and they've been piling some serious pressure onto this lot! www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_117353158356469&ap=1 you just have to request membership and theyll add you and then you can get involved with whatever theyre up to. 2000+ members in just a day!

happygilmore · 05/07/2011 18:21

I've cancelled my sky subscription today. Virgin here we come..

Would also recommend reading flat earth news, brilliant, but disturbing, read.

helpmenow · 05/07/2011 18:28

Justine if Mumsnet withdraws from your association with SKY it will send a really strong message to the enquiry into News Corps' ownership.

Please do it!

I've been following the story and feeling more and more despairing of human nature, vested interests, corruption, and starting to feel really quite scared.

It could be the most important Mumsnet Campaign by (dis)association.

jazzmyne · 05/07/2011 18:37

Renault and Ford have withdrew advertising from the rag thanx to the FB group www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_117353158356469&ap=1 Dorriss posted about earlier

BornSicky · 05/07/2011 18:40

thanks justine. completely support any MN decision to disassociate with news international and its subsidiary companies.

SpringHeeledJack · 05/07/2011 18:42

Grin BoF

and nicely done, Justine

catinthehat2 · 05/07/2011 18:46

The Press Officer for NI Robert Peston was quoting RBhis NI source this eve on the lines that it all happened after RB's time

Watch Peston closely to see how the narrative is being flexed to protect those with things they might like to hide.

I bet the Soham angle disappears soon, that is way too close in timing to RB's editorship.

Ponders · 05/07/2011 18:47

\link{http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/jul/05/phone-hacking-glenn-mulcaire-apology\Glenn Mulcaire: "Working for the News of the World was never easy. There was relentless pressure. There was a constant demand for results."}

But that demand was nothing to do with R Wade, oh no Hmm

Ponders · 05/07/2011 18:48

no, Peston said most of it happened after her time (ie 2003 on)

This was clearly during her time - no question

Tetisheri · 05/07/2011 18:51

I think it's despicable, what they've done, and add to that the fact that they could've potentially removed important evidence. And as far as I'm concerned, Rebekah Brooks is wholly responsible as she was the editor at the time (just as any manager assumes responsibility of the actions of their employees). I'm afraid I don't believe a word of it when she says she didn't know what was going on (either that or she was a stupidly dumb editor; either way, her position as CEO of News International is untenable).

If anyone's looking for a good place to get up-to-date info, petitions to sign etc, the Facebook group mentioned above is a good place to start - been in it a couple of hours myself and pleasantly surprised by the passion of the members :-)

sharbie · 05/07/2011 18:56

go mumsnet - good to see what can be done

BelleEnd · 05/07/2011 19:01

Huge respect to MNHQ for responding so quickly. Really, that has brought a lump to my throat that you've done it so instinctively. Thank you.

And MrsDeVere, I can only say that your posts have made me cry. I so want to hug you.

This whole situation is sickening.

sharbie · 05/07/2011 19:02

h grant on ch 4 news at 7

GentleOtter · 05/07/2011 19:05

Some of the advertisers twittered by Sue Perkins.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 05/07/2011 19:13

I have been emailing companies asking for their comments.

I have been sure to add that I will be waiting for their response so I can make informed choices regarding my future shopping/booking plans.

I want this sorted. I want everyone to respond as quickly and ethically as MNHQ.

Credit to you

Terribletriplets · 05/07/2011 19:16

Yay! to Sue Perkins and Gentle Otter! Just what I wanted in words of one syllable.

shineynewthings · 05/07/2011 19:26

Sigh. Seriously what am I supposed to read now? All the major newspapers seem to be dirty in some shape of form it seems.

It was being suggested earlier that Levi Bellfield may be able to appeal his sentence ,on the basis of his conviction being rendered unsafe, due to tampering with evidence and phone hacking not being mentioned in the case of Milly D.

Holly and Jessica Wells. Police detectives. I am willing to bet my last few quid that the McCanns were targetted too as someone already said upthread.

GeorgeEliot · 05/07/2011 19:27

Even if Rebekah Brooks did not have direct personal knowledge of what was going on, she created the working culture which enabled it to flourish. And for that she needs to take responsibility.
