apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

It's just been announced on BBC news that Ford cars have suspended advertising within News International.
And N Power are reviewing the situation.
Hope this just the start, and other advertisers will start pulling out.
Fingers crossed.

all4u · 05/07/2011 17:31

Compared to the awfulness of losing a daughter in that way this seems trivial. The autorities can sort it out surely and it will be a warning to journos etc in the future - but in the wider scheme of things?

Terribletriplets · 05/07/2011 17:32

Does anyone have the time or energy to post a link to contact the CEOs of all of the major advertiser? If anyone posts a link to all of the major advertisers I will find emails to the CEOs tomorrow. I am not on fb or twitter.

Terribletriplets · 05/07/2011 17:33

all4u; but it may happen again, to the next abducted child.

CrapolaDeVille · 05/07/2011 17:33

Ford pulled out!! Brilliant, fucking brilliant.

Empusa · 05/07/2011 17:35

"Compared to the awfulness of losing a daughter in that way this seems trivial."

Not really, by hacking in and deleting messages they were not only giving false hope to the families, they were also sending the police in the wrong direction and possibly tampering with evidence.

dodger65 · 05/07/2011 17:37

Perhaps Mumsnet might consider pulling the great big sky banner they have on their front page aye????

TheFalcon · 05/07/2011 17:38

What's the betting that they hacked the McCanns phones as well?

TheRhubarb · 05/07/2011 17:38

If anyone has any goss on the goings on, may I suggest contacting Private Eye? Ian Hislop would love to dish any dirt going and his rag is actually quite respected.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 05/07/2011 17:40

all4u speaking as someone who has lost a child, a girl almost the same age as Milly, I can tell you that this issue is NOT trivial.

To have strangers rummage around in your child's phone, to have them search for dirt on your child, for the media to defile your child in this way.

It is beyond words.

Nothing is trivial when you lose a child. Your memories are all you have. They DELETED messages. Messages where people would have spoken her name out loud.

Not trivial.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 05/07/2011 17:43

The body shop answered my post on their wall very quickly although it was slightly vague. They confirmed that they didnt use print advertising but they said they had no current promotional activity on the website. I have asked them to clarify.
T-Mobile has deleted my quiery.

Does anyone have a list of advertisers. I am happy to spend the next few days contacting all of them.

chillistars · 05/07/2011 17:44

TheFalcon, I think that it almost certainly the case. The BBC News site is now reporting that the police have contacted the families of the two girls from Soham, presumably they think they hacked their phones as well.

SpringHeeledJack · 05/07/2011 17:50

MrsDeVere

I have no words

just a

Sad
LadyBeagleEyes · 05/07/2011 17:55

And Halifax have also just announced they are reviewing the situation.
At this rate there won't be any advertisers left by Sunday.
The loss of revenue is going to hit them hard, and I really wouldn't be surprised if sales of the paper will be hugely down.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 05/07/2011 17:56

I think MNHQ should pull their association with SKY. I really do.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 05/07/2011 17:58

thank you spring.

I know this is getting to me more than it should. But it was her phone. A teenager's phone is such a link to them. I know parents who still phone their dead children just to hear their voice mail.

I still have my DD's number listed on my phone. Its been five years and I have changed my phone several times but her number is always there.

woollyideas · 05/07/2011 17:58

I agree with Mrs DeVere. Can we petition MNHQ?

changeforthebetter · 05/07/2011 17:59

Another vote for pulling the Sky adverts MN, please!

thefirstMrsDeVere · 05/07/2011 18:04

I have reported my post so MNHQ can see it. I wasnt the first to suggest it, a PP did upthread.
I dont want to take credit. I hardly see the homepage because I always come straight to talk.

Tolalola · 05/07/2011 18:04

Yes I agree that it seems a bit obscene somehow for Mumsnet to be associated with Sky after this has come out.

woollyideas · 05/07/2011 18:08

I have written to mumsnet via 'contact us' asking them to reconsider their association with Sky.

BitOfFun · 05/07/2011 18:09

I want to complain to the News Of The World, so I've left them a message on my voicemail.

Chippychop · 05/07/2011 18:10

I'll support the pulling. It's disgusting what they did...like grave digging!

JustineMumsnet · 05/07/2011 18:10

I agree - will look into removing asap.
