apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

Quite amusing tweet (unauthorised) from the Sun, now been pulled but a screengrab here:

lol at the thought that Rupert Fucking Murdoch is even slightly concerned about the CofE and Mumsnet. I don't believe that for a second.

freybean · 09/07/2011 22:31

but it still makes me giggle tho Smile

GentleOtter · 09/07/2011 22:32

Does he think it is all jam, Jerusalem and slow hand claps?

ThisIsANiceCage · 09/07/2011 22:32

How odd that he mentions Mumsnet and the CoE (cripes I am a member of both) but leaves out Facebook and Twitter.

He's attacking MN because it's small and has less influence. If you want to create a bogeyman, it's no bloody good if half the population turns round and says, "Oi, that's me."

God knows why he's lashing out at the church tho. Hmm

franke · 09/07/2011 22:35

They said on Radio 4 earlier that if CofE pulled out it could actually be quite damaging. Although nothing compared to the damage us yummy mummies could do obv......Hmm

Nancy66 · 09/07/2011 22:36

he DIDNT mention Mumsnet or the church .....the Guardian did.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 09/07/2011 22:50

Oh, that makes sense now then Nancy and isn't so surreal after all.

mrsdonkeybucket · 09/07/2011 22:50

Murdoch is understood to be deeply concerned that the campaign against his company led by the Mumsnet website and the Church of England could damage other titles.......

Do you think the someone at the Guardian hacked a Murdoch phone to hear a message relating to what has gone on ?

"Er, yeah, James, Son, this is Dad. Find out what in the world this 'mums-in-hair-nets' is will ya, before the assholes ruin everything I have worked for".

I don't think for a minute any of the Murdoch's have a clue what mumsnet is. Or they didn't, anyway !

Pannus · 09/07/2011 22:58

Nancy - you are obv a experienced Fleet Streeter - What did he say then ??

I just watched the NOTW staff leave after the last edition went to press. Here

Nancy66 · 09/07/2011 23:02

I don't know because I wasn't there ....

I just know how to read between the lines of a news report - and RM isn't being quoted - so the MN reference is just (very daft) conjecture from the Guardian journalist

WidowWadman · 09/07/2011 23:03

So it's the guardian saying RM is concerned by Mumsnet campaign etc.

If I was cynical I'd think it was just plugging.

franke · 09/07/2011 23:04

Of course it's daft, I'm just surprised the Guardian would be so daft in the midst of all this.

mrsdonkeybucket · 09/07/2011 23:09

I can see the Sunday Sun's 1st headline.

GUARDIAN HACKED INTO MURDOCH PHONE SHOCKER

I expect due to the distress caused, the Murdoch's will after all be awarded the remaining % of BSkyB.

Grin
Pannus · 09/07/2011 23:14

Ha ha they haven't said SORRY

WidowWadman · 09/07/2011 23:15

Why daft? Overstating its role helps boosting mumsnet's profile which is good for selling advertising space.

mrsdonkeybucket · 09/07/2011 23:15

They wouldn't need to would they ? Grin

arazmataz · 09/07/2011 23:16

How many posts is this thread going to take? Will it go on until closed down by Mr Murdoch himself?

franke · 09/07/2011 23:20

Oh fgs, the paper review on News 24 at the mo, the blokes are being all kind about the NOTW and how marvellous it was. "Great investigative journalism" (as they focus on the Frank Bough front page). boak.

Pannus · 09/07/2011 23:21

"It wasn't us. It wasn't us!" That's what the SS guards at Belsen said when the liberating armies rolled in...

muminlondon · 09/07/2011 23:21

I'm really late to this thread because I've been following this story so avidly on the BBC and the Guardian. It's so unlikely that RM is concerned by the CofE and mumsnet - not typical Sun/NoW readers are they? Still, Justine gave a good interview on newsnight.

NerfHerder · 10/07/2011 00:04

The last 2 days have been good for one thing anyway- seems that not everything bad in the UK is public sector worker's fault.
