apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

OP posts:
thefirstMrsDeVere · 08/07/2011 23:28

Stanley Unwin! THats him. Will Self is Stanley Unwin for the chattering classes!

Ponders · 08/07/2011 23:28

I was waiting for Steve C to throw himself across the table at Paul McTwat

(Hugh Grant would have looked the same if he had been in the same studio when he was talking to him earlier)

jenny60 · 08/07/2011 23:28

Well done Justine. I thought you talked real sense among lots of nonsense. Coogan had a good point but was all over the place. Justine, you were clear and articulate and, I think, right. Thanks Smile

handsomeharry · 08/07/2011 23:29

I must have been watching another Newsnight. I liked what Will Self had to say and I was glad he questioned some of Justine's points.
He seemed perfectly coherent to me.

jenny60 · 08/07/2011 23:30

And OMG McMulllen!!! A perfect example of how tabloid 'journalists' just don't get it.

FoundWanting · 08/07/2011 23:31

Justine was very clear and sensible. Hope she has gone straight home because the post-show green room must be rather fraught.

BenHer · 08/07/2011 23:31

Partridge played his part well.Willl Self has become a sad parody.Justine performed very well under pressure.

AwesomePan · 08/07/2011 23:31

we should all make an effort to casually drop 'epiphenominal' into a convo tomorrow.

follyfoot · 08/07/2011 23:33

I thought Coogan came across as a bit of a self-righteous pillock personally. And I suspect when the dirty little journo said that Coogan had been boasting in the green room about the number of houses he had bought this year, that was a rare moment of truth from McMullen

teej · 08/07/2011 23:33

every time i see headfairy's op at the top of the page it makes me sad.
it brings it back to basics - ordinary people going through dreadful times suffered even more because NI thought knew they were above the law.

so who do we think the mail hacked? where's nancy66 when you need herWink

oh and i agree - great job justine!

teej · 08/07/2011 23:36

foundwanting is it wrong i want her to hang round in that fraught green room so she can adopt a sock puppet and post anonymously to give us a blow by blow (literally in the case of coogan vs mcmullin) account later? Blush

GetOrfMoiLand · 08/07/2011 23:36

Clegg is just auto-wittering what he thinks he ought to be seen saying in public.

The shyster.

He will still roll over and do what he is told to do in this 'coaltion'

cartimandua · 08/07/2011 23:36

We should all be very well aware of the fact that without compliant and complicit politicians Murdoch would not wield the power he does. Ultimately, they are the ones to blame, and they are the ones who should be required to explain themselves. They need a damn good kicking as a reminder that they are only there because we put them there, and that they can be slung out on their ears. Write to your MPs and demand answers. And if you're not satisfied, don't vote next time.
Sadly I expect the heat to go out of the outrage. Some minion will be thrown to the wolves and everybody will move on to the next thing. As a nation we truly do get the press and the politicians we deserve.

GetOrfMoiLand · 08/07/2011 23:37

Suspect grammar in that last post, apols.

OhBuggerandArse · 08/07/2011 23:38

Yep, Coogan a bit inarticulate and ranting. Loved Will Self (esp. the 'rat-like persona'), thought the Heat guy was quite amusing, and Justine did well.

gilbertta · 08/07/2011 23:41

Just rewound and watched it - Justine clearly most articulate of the four.

teej · 08/07/2011 23:42

folly the pot shot from mcmullen about SC taking 5m for a RM-produced movie and then campaigning against another part of the same empire was also illuminating!

as evidenced by my earlier posts i don't agree with what went on. However i found the essential humanity of that discussion on newsnight really interesting - it's clear that everyone is deeply flawed - whether consumer, media owner, government etc

handsomeharry · 08/07/2011 23:44

I agree OhBugger about Coogan, Will Self and Boyd Hilton. I thought Justine was okay but wasn't overwhelmed!

teej · 08/07/2011 23:45

tired eyes closing here - no doubt see you all tomorrow for more details of further shenanigans.... RM flying into london to sort the whole thing out, eh? wonder who will give him a private meeting.... Hmm

sharbie · 08/07/2011 23:46

coogan had nothing to say
self is a tosser

well done justine though

ClaireDeLoon · 08/07/2011 23:47

So who is the 63 year old arrested on suspicion of corruption then? Doesn't say who on BBC.

gilbertta · 08/07/2011 23:51

@GetOrf

If you look at various Lib Dem fora, it's the party activists which have been slagging Clegg off all day for not stepping up to the plate. He had to.

After all, they have a pretty strong position, in that they have not really sucked up to Murdoch. But where has Clegg been. Slavishly loyal to the coalition. Whereas back bench Lib Dems have been tweeting and posting quite pertinent things.

Am a left wing Lib Dem, btw - not a v comfortable place these last 14months, but still pivotal.

sharbie · 08/07/2011 23:51

digital spy say may be a pi re milly d case

GetOrfMoiLand · 08/07/2011 23:57

Gawd a lw lib dem - that must be difficult! I think that Clegg is aligning himself to the small-minded right wing lib dems as they are the ones he needs to court for the next election. I am afraid that I can be nothing but utterly cynical re lib dem actions and practices. I imagine they realise that have lost the LW element of their support, so all out for the slighlty dim small town tory/lib dems, who probably love the coalition.

GetOrfMoiLand · 08/07/2011 23:59

Sorry gilbertt - that last posts of mine reads as being very snidey, wasn't meant to me.

Lib dem are in the same boat as tory, in my mind however.
