apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

Is Alton still a member of the Press Complaints Commission?

Gillg57 · 08/07/2011 21:58

Wonderful as it is to see the back of the NOTW it's peanuts to the likes of Murdoch. What matters to him is the BSkyB deal. He thinks throw us the crumbs (NOTW) and all will be well. So let's see massive pressure to prevent that deal going through....

forkful · 08/07/2011 21:58

Just watched the clip.

Roger Alton, Joint Executive Editor of The Times said:

"The comfortable Mother's of Mumsnet, sitting down to their Fairtrade tea Brew now and organic shortbread biscuits Biscuit I hope they're very pleased with the Twitter campaign they organised getting to the advertisers saying don't advertise in the NOTW, they have done in a sense as much as anybody to close this paper and put more than 200 reporters photographers editors and young people just starting their career. These yummy mummies have done as much as anybody else to put them out of work and I hope they're feeling pleased with themselves."

How fucking dare you try to say that MNers have put people out of a job - what a truely truely shitty thing to say.

The fact you are so upset indicates that we have serious influence and that you are seriously pissed of about that - hence the contemptous dissmissive description of us as - you are running scared in case we turn our attention to The Times.

Any MNer in any doubt as to why they should boycott other elements of the News International Group - see above!

Alton was quite possibly drunk. I believe it is not unknown for him.

And he has some pretty interesting attitudes to women in general.

mrsdonkeybucket · 08/07/2011 22:01

Andy Coulson released on bail.

Really ? They have nothing to charge him with yet ?

changeforthebetter · 08/07/2011 22:02

Times is a misogynistic piece of vileness. X read it 'nuff said Grin

Ah, see he used to edit the Observer we-support-social-justice-now-eat-in-this-restaurant-that's-£110-a-head-for-lunch-wearing-a-skirt-costing-£360.

What a Jeremy!! Grin

mrsdonkeybucket · 08/07/2011 22:02

He says "there is a lot he would like to sat, but can't".

Hmmm.

Chipotle · 08/07/2011 22:02

Spill MissCavell.

mrsdonkeybucket · 08/07/2011 22:03

*say, sorry

Chipotle · 08/07/2011 22:03

MissClavel sorry.

Ponders · 08/07/2011 22:04

he certainly looked to be having trouble focusing on the camera

changeforthebetter · 08/07/2011 22:08

Yes come on MN

It was your crap mothering (frootshoots and Greggs-aplenty Grin) that caused these poor ickle journos to pay coppers and PIs to spill the beans. It's all your fault mothers... um cos, um, it is, and that's what the Greek myths say.................................

Oh for pity's sake. Couldn't someone have given him a coffee first ?

PS Mr Alton, my biscuits are not organic but are from fucking Aldi because I can't afford anything else from my miserly wage that I earn from working really hard doing something useful and not publishing witless drivel aimed at the lowest common denominator.

MissClavel · 08/07/2011 22:12

Um, don't want to say anything too specific.

But just ignore him, he will be loving this.

bobthebuddha · 08/07/2011 22:13

wow, Mumsnetters are powerful! If we killed the NOTW can we take Murdoch down now too please? Armed only with the simple sword of shortbread and the trusty shield of British fair trade tea...

forkful · 08/07/2011 22:14

Roger Alton thinks that "Pictures of semi-naked women basically make the world a better place". Hmm

TalkinPeace2 · 08/07/2011 22:25

am frankly both stunned and depressed that (at no cost to themselves) MN poster shave not hit the like button..
www.facebook.com/BoycottNewsInternational
NOTW is not the problem
NI is
MN MUST get that

thelambliesdown · 08/07/2011 22:31

Roger Alton,for example.....

amimagic · 08/07/2011 22:32

Roger Alton has seriously misjudged the mood of the nation if he thinks that NOTW closing is down to MN!

There are people at my place of work who know nothing of MN or politics or current affairs usually, who have spent the last couple of days trying to work out different ways of boycotting the whole NI group, eg Sky, The Sun, those advertisers who sat on the fence (yes you TESCO)

What an odious man he comes across as.

forkful · 08/07/2011 22:35

Tuning into Newsnight to watch Justine. Good luck Justine.

"will it change our buying habits etc etc" - yep totally boycotting all NI output. Grin

CaveMum · 08/07/2011 22:37

Is Justine going to give us a secret signal - a packet of Pom Bears on the desk in front of her perhaps?!

EightiesChick · 08/07/2011 22:43

Watching too

mrsdonkeybucket · 08/07/2011 22:44

I am watching too. [hsmile]

bigbabushkas · 08/07/2011 22:44

I missed the intro and saw 2 mins later introducing some guests....no Justine, is she deffo on?

Empusa · 08/07/2011 22:45

DH just pointed out that the poor photographers that Alton says MN have put out of work were never hired by NI. They do not hire photographers.
