#prodnose Danny Baker
Times exec Roger Alton 'blames' Mumsnet for closing the NOTW. Right on Rog! NOTW was wearing short skirt and make up tho'. Asking for it eh?

Good man, Danny Grin

Ponders · 08/07/2011 20:15

(Awesome is an old MNer - he used to be known just as Pan Smile)

Jajaswolefwoman · 08/07/2011 20:17

So angry at Roger Alton, he was so disparaging. Hope Justine mentions his attitude later.

There goes my subscription to The Times then Angry!

TalkinPeace2 · 08/07/2011 20:18

My ten year old son says
NI should give an amount equal to their 2010 profits to the Disasters Emergency Committee this weekend if they are truly contrite

Are the MNcrowd up to support the idea

AwesomePan · 08/07/2011 20:21

just seen Alton - he really doesn't like women at all does he?

Chipotle · 08/07/2011 20:22

I cannot believe that us 'yummy Mummys' have just been blamed for the phone hacking scandal and the fact that NotW staff are now out of a job.

What a complete arse!

thederkinsdame · 08/07/2011 20:26

Isn't it strange how a few of us 'wimmin' have managed to uncover this hacking business all by ourselves and bring down a national newspaper? Because if we weren't voicing our dissent then the whole sorry debacle could have been swept under the table and the BskyB deal could have gone through today as planned, right? Hmm

If Roger Alton really had his finger on the pulse, he'd realise that the majority of the country is up in arms. Look at FB, look at twitter, look at any forum where reasonably intelligent switched on types are posting and he will realise that it's not just a few lentil weaving do-gooders sat here with our fair trade tea. Mumsnet has thousands of posters across the globe, from all ages and backgrounds and I'm guessing the majority of us WONT be buying a NI paper including the Times.

EightiesChick · 08/07/2011 20:27

Just saw the Roger Alton clip on C4+1! What a moron! My fave tweets on it so far are that he 'looked unhinged' and is 'unfit to hold a media job' Grin Come on, angry mob, let's destroy Mr Alton next!

ClaireDeLoon · 08/07/2011 20:37

Also just watched Roger Alton's comments on C4+1. How shifty was he? Completely unable to look the camera straight on.

It is no way just 'yummy mummies'. It isn't just mumsnet and besides that bloody hell why can't mothers have a collective voice if they so choose? Why does mum get used as a derogatory term - I'm not a mum but if I had a baby would I suddenly swap to become a person unworthy of opinions. Sheesh.

Anyway if the twitter rumours are true RB is pregnant so she might even be a mner herself.

AwesomePan · 08/07/2011 20:40

IT's a serious business when a national editor goes on national tv and disparages the entire site for a result his own NI colleagues were responsible for. The sort of thing he may say in the squash club locker room, but on C4 news??

also, isn't he a bit dim? If we can bin and entire newspaper, what's one editor?

EightiesChick · 08/07/2011 20:43

PLEASE anyone here who buys the Times email and tell him he's just made it 1000 times worse and you won't be buying anymore. Does he imagine no MNers read his paper?

HeIsSpartacus · 08/07/2011 20:46

Wow. Roger Alton. Just wow.

Here's the clip for anyone that didn't see it:

HeIsSpartacus · 08/07/2011 20:48

Damn. Sorry. Can't get it to link. Found it on Twitter.

bubbles4 · 08/07/2011 20:50

According to this it looks like NI,s plans of taking over BSKYB have taken a downward turn.

OhYouBadBadCrookshanks · 08/07/2011 20:50

What a deranged man he is!!!! Of course its our fault for protesting about the corrupt, immoral and abhorrent practices of the Murdoch empire. How dare us (and so many many others) have an opinion and express it.

Yes its is bloody awful that the ones who lose their jobs are just the workers, but that is indicative of the whole corrupt management of the company.

NThompson · 08/07/2011 20:52

Can't quite believe what I have just seen on Channel 4 News +1 (putting children to bed at 7pm Mr Alton.....not eating organic shortbread). Is there any way we can get this up on the site so it is easy to access (otherwise see 4OD)?

So, Executive Editor of Times pops up to blame Mumsnet for closing News of the World by persuading advertisers to boycott.

Where to start....First, the arrogance is incredible. Does he have any concept that his pathetic salary is paid by readers and advertisers who are seeking to appeal to people?

Secondly, the sense of "we are in power not you proles" is a sight to behold. Wake up pal as the internet is a rather more powerful engine than your pathetic paper. And last but not least I had already noticed the totally skewed coverage in The Times over the last few days.

Fearsome journalism I don't think so. Surely we should all refuse to buy any NI paper in the future.

EightiesChick · 08/07/2011 20:54

That statement about how 'they [MNers] did as much as anyone to make this happen' is one of the most outrageous things, and most egregious lies, I have ever heard on a news programme. Does his newspaper no favours whatsoever.

Tolalola · 08/07/2011 20:55

Glad I'd already decided not to buy the Times again, then.

It actually gave me a real pang, too. I'm not in the UK and the Saturday Times is the only non-tabloid UK paper we can get. I really liked it and rsepect a lot of the journalists who write for it.

But I know that as I handed money over all I'd be able to see is those dead girls' faces. I'd feel like I had blood on my hands, frankly. Besides, DP is ex-army and he's absolutely spitting - there's no way he'd have anything NI in the house.

EightiesChick · 08/07/2011 20:55

The clip from C4 news is online here for anyone who hasn't seen it. Beware if you are on high blood pressure medication!

CrapolaDeVille · 08/07/2011 20:55

Fucking hell..... Now I love MN, I really do but I'm not sure it has that much power FFS.

CrapolaDeVille · 08/07/2011 20:57

Erm, Aren't the people at the top responsible for the newly unemployed gutter journos and workers (who are possibly nice people)? Without piss poor management that knew all about allowed what happened with hacking noone would be outraged and the paper would still be free to tell us all about who Ashley Cole is fucking.

Chipotle · 08/07/2011 20:59

I wonder if he's been up to no good a la Andy Coulson and Rebekah Brooks. It's all NI after all, even if it is a broadsheet?

ThisIsANiceCage · 08/07/2011 21:02

Mm, if NOTW continued, I'd expect at this point to see private investigators going for personal stuff on Justine, in revenge. That's how they did business, after all.

Doubt the Times will pick up that particular baton, but maybe the Sun will have a pop? So stand by for "Justine seen picking her nose and feeding her child frootshoots while oppressing a worthy working class person" stories coming soon to a newsstand near you...

ZZZenAgain · 08/07/2011 21:04

Alton seemed drunk to me. What a peculiar thing for him to say/do.

ClaireDeLoon · 08/07/2011 21:04

I do think that The Times has a bit of a bad attitude to the internet that isn't NI sanctioned. I follow one Times journo on Twitter (F1 related) and a week or so ago he had a massive rant at 'free' sites having stories that were also in the Times. They hate that people can get informed for free and of course here on mn people will post what is happening now, give links to news stories etc.
