"Roger Alton editor of the Times has just been slagging off mnetters on channel 4 news"

Because he doesn't have a vested interest at all.. Hmm

Terribletriplets · 08/07/2011 19:23

For Justine, on newsnight tonight:

Tony Blair courted Murdoch as much as Dave did. This is not a party political issue. GB attended her wedding. I am no big supporter of Dave but in the light of Blair and Brown's courting of Murdoch, I think it clouds the issue to lay all blame with the Tories.

TalkinPeace2 · 08/07/2011 19:23

Interesting that "Help for Heroes" does not appear to have distanced itself from NI.
Bearing in mind the people it supports are among those targeted

on the Grauniad -
the offered prepaid phones to people "to help keep in touch" and then checked out all the call data on them
and its been on the BBC that they hacked George Osborne and his parents ....

NI are just scum.
So
Have YOU demanded that your local pub switch off the pay per view Sky?

Jux · 08/07/2011 19:25

I've just heard that it's our fault NotW was closed down. We are supposed to feel guilty while we eat our 'tea'.

Nothing at all to do with the behaviour of the journos, then. Murdoch didn't make the decision then.

I know a lot of people who were still getting the Times out of habit who just cancelled their orders in the last couple of days. None of them were on MN. It's Murdoch you should be blaming you silly twit.

rosieposey · 08/07/2011 19:27

Jux i heard that too and was Shock he really has got his knickers in a twist!

AwesomePan · 08/07/2011 19:29

so. did MN posters take down a national newspaper then?

Wow.

yeah right.

frillyflower · 08/07/2011 19:29

"They don't like it up 'em" do they!

GrimmaTheNome · 08/07/2011 19:31

Surely we can't take all the credit for this - I listened to a good rant on R4, The Now Show while I was eating my dinner. No pangs of guilt here...

freybean · 08/07/2011 19:31

justine please please please kick ass tonight

myboysaregreat · 08/07/2011 19:39

prehaps we should start a campaign against the times as well! Stupid man! I hate the gutter press that we have in this country! And no im not a middle class mum jumping on a bandwagon, i am a concerned mum who worries about the world my children are growing up in and im worried about the influences on them and this country caused by the unethical vulgur behave we have from middle/upper class journalists!

AwesomePan · 08/07/2011 19:40

I suspect that if the last few days are anything to go by whosoever is on NN will be kicking their own asses.

madamimadam · 08/07/2011 19:40

Silly sod. Must just be cross he's the last man there to hear they planned NOTW's closure a while ago. And people like Armand Iannucci and Graham Linehan are typical MNers, aren't they?

Misogynistic little twat.

Terribletriplets · 08/07/2011 19:42

What info does Justine need?
List of boycotters?

(I am not going to be able to watch it, but will watch later)

youtube of Blair and R Brookes that I posted upthread, courtesy of another mnetter.

What do ethical consumers do in the light of Tesco's lack of responsibility?

role that RB has played in sensationalising child murders for the sake of circulation?

If co-op are advertising here now, how does the world of advertising work?

Why has AC and the other been arrested and not RB?

PLEASE Justine, give the names of those adveritsers who pulled out, eg Ford, Renault, co-op and others; can't think of how else to reward them.

How long did it take Justine to take down ads for Sky on mn, and of what cost? (not long at all imho) TTx.

Empusa · 08/07/2011 19:43

"prehaps we should start a campaign against the times as well!"

Maybe that's why he is so upset, he's worried that soon he'll be in the frame.

GrimmaTheNome · 08/07/2011 19:44

I think it'd be better to focus on (a) quashing the BskyB takeover and (b) trying to put the kybosh on Sunday Sun slinking into the NotW slot.

ThisIsANiceCage · 08/07/2011 19:44

Roger Alton has a pretty low view of the people of Britain if he imagines the only ones repulsed by NOTW's behaviour are MNers.

LucaBrasi · 08/07/2011 19:47

Ah Mumsnet, dearie me, the wimmen are talking about politics now. It's their fault.

AwesomePan · 08/07/2011 19:49

yummy mummies? So, me, BGD, UD, Belfast Bloke, TLD, Snorbs, Beta, nannynick et al had best get out our tight-fitting sweaters and pencil skirts then?

Jux · 08/07/2011 19:54

I know several people who have cancelled their subscriptions to the Times in the last couple of days, and a fair few who are in the throes of doing so. Not one of them on MN, but each one able to read other papers, listen to the news on the radio and television, and look things up on the internet. Didn't need our help.

SugarSkyHigh · 08/07/2011 19:57

in WH smith today they were giving away free copies of the Times if you spent £3 or something on any magazine.

A sudden promotional campaign in the light of recent events?

(I didn't get a copy)!

Chipotle · 08/07/2011 20:02

Bugger I missed it. Is there a Channel 4+1?

Chipotle · 08/07/2011 20:04

Ah yes there is!

madamimadam · 08/07/2011 20:05

Empusa, Renault have pulled their ads from all NI titles, so think you're right there.

Fact sites like Liberal Conspiracy & Political Scrapbook (both read by journos) organised boycotts is here nor there, is it Rog?

It's a day of shocks, isn't it? Awesome, I could have sworn you was a laydee!
Yes, I know it's the same lazy thinking I'm hacked off with Roger Alton for...

Jajaswolefwoman · 08/07/2011 20:09

Radio 4 now, Any Questions is devoting whole programme to this issue

Jajaswolefwoman · 08/07/2011 20:15
