woohoo hte Americans are commenting now on PM
"if American citizens have been spied on"

They take this sort of thing very very seriously don't they

AwesomePan · 08/07/2011 17:30

busted flush? Something that promises much but doesn't deliver in the end. Odd usage here, as the politicos knew the PCC and the allowance of voluntaryism rendered it toothless.

TalkinPeace2 · 08/07/2011 17:30

freybean

term from pontoon
a flush is 5 cards - ideally adding up to 21
busted if they go over it
ie utterly worthless heap of .....

freybean · 08/07/2011 17:33

I do hope the police will be taking shoe laces, tie and belt off Andy Coulson.

freybean · 08/07/2011 17:51

RB is no longer in charge in the notw investigation

going to make a desion about a 7 day sun soon

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 08/07/2011 18:11

I say good riddance to bad rubbish - but the gap will be filled by some equally noxious rag in no time flat. The trouble is that the market for this trash is there - and someone will always gladly pander to the lowest requirements if it turns them a buck or several million.

thederkinsdame · 08/07/2011 18:21

Go Justine! I am glad that MN has proved to be a he'll of a lot more principled than many companies out there. We'll be relinquishing sky and tesco can take a running jump too.

Terribletriplets · 08/07/2011 18:41

I am changing my bank account to co-op next week, but I have to admit that I was going to do it anyway, after years of HSBC banking. But I am grateful to have a good excuse to do it. Not sure how else I can pay tribute to the advertisers who pulled out. Not about to buy a Renault. Thank fuck that npower changed their game because that would have been a hassle. Now shopping at co-op instead of Tesco.

Jajaswolefwoman · 08/07/2011 18:45

Good luck Justine.

Maybe they will extend Newsnight tonight or cull the review/entertainment bit?

AwesomePan · 08/07/2011 18:47

is justine going on tv again, then?

LucaBrasi · 08/07/2011 18:51

Justine
Absolute kudos to you for removing the advertising, not only because it shows your principles, clear sightedness and willingness to take a hit in revenue making but particulary because it is simply a brave decision. An decision that the politicians were not willing to do until the writing was on the wall and one that is clearly a risk given the maliciousness of the Murdoch press.

All the best for Newsnight tonight, you'll be fab. And don't be modest about what you have done either; be proud of your integrity and know that you are supported.
xx

Just read this on another forum:

"ooooh I found some inside info today (v busy at the gym with the wife of one of the execs - he's a good egg apparently - they even said so last night on Question Time. "honourable" was the exact word used to describe him)

Anyway, there is another team (from the NOTW) already being set up for a new publication. And they're actually all surprised that Rebekah is still there. V surprised. Make of that what you will "

Jajaswolefwoman · 08/07/2011 18:59

christ it's all a farce

Terribletriplets · 08/07/2011 19:07

a bit off topic but I need help with spelling; would someone quickly tell me how to spell gawl, as in 'I didn't have the gawl to ask'. My mind has gone blank of the spelling of gawl. Cheers.

Ponders · 08/07/2011 19:10

gall Smile

Terribletriplets · 08/07/2011 19:10

crap grammar there too. It is in regard to an email that I am trying to write on this topic, not a random spelling enquiry.

Terribletriplets · 08/07/2011 19:11

gall! Cheers! Back to my email. Please everyone else disregard my query.

HeIsSpartacus · 08/07/2011 19:16

I just cannot keep up with all of this.

Just listened to the audio recording of RB's speech to NoTW staff - great comeback from the staff.

liberalconspiracy.org/2011/07/08/leaked-audio-rebekah-brooks-angrily-questioned-by-angry-notw-staff/

I also can't get my head round this. I understand RB is the buffer for JM. But what's in it for her? Does she seriously think she can ride this out? All I can think is that RB has been offered cash by RM? Is this how it goes? You be the fall-guy, you'll never have to work again. You'll get a suspended sentence or a few months in an open white collar prison and be home again soon?

blog.thomsonreuters.com/index.php/rupert-murdochs-empire-graphic-of-the-day/

Interesting that Ed Milliband chose Reuters as site of his speech. Used to work for them, think they have a unique corporate structure in terms of ethics but RM even has his reach over there. Reuters co-owns a joint venture with Dow Jones (RM owned) called Factiva which is a business news & information service.

Ooh and Justine's husband is being called Mr Mumsnet on the Guido Fawkes blog!

Just been watching ch 4 news! Apparently it's Mumsnet's fault that all those poor journalists are out of jobs. APparently we're all sitting down to fair trade tea too. I'm not, it's pizza for tea.
