Good luck Justine. I'm completely in agreement with Gentle Otter and other posters. What has happened is so repulsive that I'm not sure that anything but a complete clearout of the stables will restore trust. Yes, we knew the media/politicians/Met were probably a bit iffy but this level of corruption?
MN took an early, principles stand on this and although the NOTW has folded I don't think there are many on here who would be prepared to give the likes of Tesco our money again. This isn't just a kneejerk boycott. Most of us know that the only way companies really listen is if they are hit in the balance sheet. I don't think any of them have acted out of a sense of morality - just to save their brands. And I'd rather have a colander attached to my house than pipe anymore money to the likes of Sky and their supporters etc
What's been really interesting is that I haven't heard one person say the NOTW closure settles the issue, that they are persuaded by Cameron or anything other than NI, Murdoch, Brooks, Cameron, the Met must take us for fools. We can see online that others feel the same way we do and it convinces us that our actions are not futile, that together they can have an effect. But for the likes on fora like MN, Twitter and facebook, I think sectors of the media could have gone on telling us the same old lies and playing down the importance of it all. Chris Bryant, Tom Watson and the Guardian have been telling the world about this for years - it isn't news.
And it's made me pay for a print edition of the Guardian for the first time in yonks. There is good journalism out there - even within NI. It's just the fuckers don't listen until they're hit in the accounts department.
Sorry. Ridiculously long post. But better I post here than shout at the cat.
