apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

Oh Sea completely agree that it stinks but i don't think it's about anything she might have on RM/JM - she must still be useful to them or they would have hung her out to dry and just shut her up anyway. Perhaps the integration strategy was her baby and they need her to follow through? Also she & her hubby are matey with DC and SamCam - maybe it's to keep the friendly link straight into No. 10, too.

jenny, I can no longer watch the news on the TV, DH would like it in one piece (I'm actually being serious, he says I get really cross and red)

What was said?

Georgimama · 07/07/2011 21:51

I saw it Jenny. He was very careful not to criticise RB wasn't he?

catinthehat2 · 07/07/2011 21:52

Can someone please punch James Murdoch ? Please.

His 'fawning' over Rebekah and her 'exemplary conduct' is making me feel ill.

AwesomePan · 07/07/2011 22:04

there's a queue, mrs.

mrsdonkeybucket · 07/07/2011 22:04

I'll queue. Grin

I don't mind !

He was george* because he clearly wants a job on the Sun. Don't want to misrepresent him but he as far as I saw, he said the current staff of NOTW were not to blame, that misconduct was in the past and that current staff had been hung out to dry by the wrath of the British public. He denied the journo's claim that current staff had been let down by a management intent on protecting itself. He also made the point that some of the reports this week have been 'ridiculous'.

He was crass and wrong and the interview clealry was a reflection of a man without the nerve to stand up to RB, wanting a job with the Sun and not being willing to accept that the public was absolutely right to insist on a massive shake up. Very defensive overall believe it or not.

Have to say too that EM is finally beginning to look like a leader. If he's willing to stake his political career by standing up to RB, why isn't DC. Clealry RB should go and DC and his sidekicks should say so.

MollieO · 07/07/2011 22:09

Can someone explain why Andy Coulson is being arrested but not Rebekah Brooks? She was editor at the time that Milly Dowler's phone was hacked. She was in charge and therefore either did know or should have known what was going on. What does she have on RM and JM that she is so protected?

MollieO · 07/07/2011 22:10

Should add that I thought RB had confirmed she knew about payments to the police. Surely that is enough to arrest her?

jenny60 · 07/07/2011 22:10

Mollie: perjury I think ... for a start.

mrsdonkeybucket · 07/07/2011 22:12

Maybe the Police could tell you, for a fee, MollieO Wink

franke · 07/07/2011 22:14

They're protectng RB because if she resigned that would be to admit some wrongdoing when she was edtor of NOTW. After the NOTW she went on to edit the Sun.... The story might be explosive now, but if you bring illegality at the Sun into the mix then it gets a whole lot worse for NI.

SeaShellsAndTheInlawInvasion · 07/07/2011 22:16

mollieO-see my earlier post, she was on holiday those weeks so knew nothing, so clear of guilt

Obviously

MollieO · 07/07/2011 22:16

Didn't she give evidence to a HofC select committee and say they had paid police for stories? How on earth has she kept her job? If the BSkyB deal goes ahead in Sept I'm afraid I will be questioning how much RM has paid the Govt to get it.

mrsdonkeybucket · 07/07/2011 22:17

Apparently she offered her resignation last night, and it was rejected by the 'powers that be' in New York.

I think The Sun will be brought into it. We have already seen how the 'nasty journos' all squeal like little pigs (unfair to pigs I know) when the shit hits the fan.

mrsdonkeybucket · 07/07/2011 22:18

Yes she did, Mollie with Andy sat next to her. He interrupted and said that what they had done was "within the confines of the law".

Only problem is it's illegal !

MollieO · 07/07/2011 22:25

I'm not going mad then. I thought I heard her say so on Radio 5 this morning but I wasn't sure I believed what I actually heard. How can Andy Coulson be arrested but not her? I don't understand the distinction between the two of them. Can anyone explain to me in simple terms please?

jenny60 · 07/07/2011 22:26

Does anyone think she will last?

ThisIsANiceCage · 07/07/2011 22:27

Apparently the committee questioned her again later, MollieO, and claimed to have been "repeating rumours" that police had been paid. She denied having knowledge or specific cases.

Whereas Coulson is now exposed by emails allegedly showing him paying the police.

jenny60 · 07/07/2011 22:31

I might be clutching at straws here, but I don't think closing NOTW has appeased anyone, certainly not in the press Ive read/seen/heard.

mrsdonkeybucket · 07/07/2011 22:35

No, I don't think it has.

I think people are fed up of having the wool pulled over their eyes.

I think people sense that this could bring real change, if it is dealt with correctly.

MollieO · 07/07/2011 22:37

I can't see how closing the NOTW solves anything. Surely dealing with AC, RB and others through the criminal courts is what's needed?

mrsdonkeybucket · 07/07/2011 22:38

Of course it is. But will it really happen ?

NormanTebbit · 07/07/2011 22:40

Isn't she taking the heat from James Murdoch?
