apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

Sun journos walk out in solidarity with NoTW journos

Show's up Murdoch's attempts to circumvent due process nicely.

Yes yes yes the public are that thick bless' em! Much nicer and more generous than we give them credit for but quite dim also

madamimadam · 07/07/2011 20:33

It really is like an ep of Crimewatch, isn't it? Firm up to no good, net closes in, they shut down and start up under different name. Really, really shabby.

There's an interesting piece on Guardian Live blog page at around 2.20pm here:
whole from an investment company, asking pension BSkyB takeover would need BSkyB investor approval

Does anyone here who knows more about pension funds than I do (ie everyone) think there's any mileage in contacting the funds to say we don't want our money invested there? Mind you, if enough of us boycott Sky in the first place...

headfairy · 07/07/2011 20:35

Awesome, I resent that :o

sorry flipp Grin

teej · 07/07/2011 20:42

Awesome really? I fear very low as a whole. Not that we are inherently stupid, we just don't pay enough attention and even when we do we tend to keep our heads down so whatever it is doesn't happen to us.

Heartened that the news is reporting that some Sun staff are walking out in solidarity with their NotW colleagues. Possibly because they know they could be the next to be thrown to the lions to make sure the Sky deal goes through. And possibly because they will soon be competing for their jobs with their ex NotW colleagues....

What is the situation with regard to redundancy payments etc in this type of situation - could this be a cost saving exercise in more ways than one?

teej have a read of my link at 20.31. I think Murdoch is basically buying the staff off because normally you have to follow certain proceedures when making people redundant.

teej I was wondering how he did this under employment law but appears Murdoch has paid all Notw employees 90 days pay instead of doing the 90 day consultation James Murdoch said they were doing earlier today.

headfairy i fear their servers are suffering - the link wouldn't connect! what was the gist?

teej · 07/07/2011 20:57

oh thanks, hell.

quite enjoying replay of ann leslie interview on News 24 at the mo...

headfairy · 07/07/2011 20:58

Basically what hell said, he's paying them off, but I'm not sure that's allowed under employment law.

yup - paying them off so they can't protest etc - very efficient, very clinical. very NI. and yet their internal investigation wasn't it seems Hmm

catinthehat2 · 07/07/2011 21:11

Er Flippin would that be the same as my 17.47 scoop?????

happygilmore · 07/07/2011 21:13

catinthehat Grin

I really was late to that one, wasn't I!

SeaShellsAndTheInlawInvasion · 07/07/2011 21:13

(this is rhetorical as I don't what to get libellous) but seriously, NotW was the most profitable paper in NI's UK arm-what on earth has RB got on M that means she is worth 200peoples job and 168years of a newspapers history?! If the paper and AC are going down, why is she remaining?

Proof that cockroaches are indestructable in the face of armeggedon?!!

flippinada · 07/07/2011 21:16

catinthehat Blush...soz

Was just enjoying spreading that particular bit of news !

teej · 07/07/2011 21:17

SeaShells it's not about RB, it's all about the Sky deal and the fact they were considering dropping NotW anyway for cost reasons and moving to a 7 day Sun.

Ponders · 07/07/2011 21:18

Proof that cockroaches are indestructable in the face of armeggedon?!!

oooh, nice imagery there, Seashells! I hope someone can do a bit of photoshopping to go with that...

teej · 07/07/2011 21:20

you know Pesto had a point - dropping readers/subscribers for a short period while you are undergoing anti-competitive scrutiny does actually help rather than hinder the Sky deal...

bkgirl · 07/07/2011 21:20

I agree I hope there is a campaign which extends to asking companies not to advertise in the Sun, after all it is just giving it to the same company. ..there is no way the Murdochs should get 100% of BSkyB...lets see if Cameroon is their puppet.

SeaShellsAndTheInlawInvasion · 07/07/2011 21:36
Grin

Teej, I understand it's about damage limitation, but even if RB was on holiday at the time conveniently because when you are editor in chief you are uncontactable on holiday of course she was editor at the time. It just interesting where the line has been drawn. AC and a whole load of people not employed at the time go, but she and JM stays.

If this was the BBC the top bosses would have to go before the baying media hounds let it drop

Ponders · 07/07/2011 21:40

the baying media hounds haven't let this drop yet though, & I'm sure they won't - the top bosses will end up having to go, & will look far worse for the time taken to do so

jenny60 · 07/07/2011 21:44

Anyone just watched the NOTW media guy on BBC news? I am Shock. He just doesn't get it, after everything that happened!
