apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

A tenner says the Sun launches a Sunday edition within 6 months...

hammybobs · 07/07/2011 16:55

Some staff there, not involved, not responsible, losing their jobs while wade clings on. Hmm, I can see the logic on that one.

HerBeX · 07/07/2011 16:55

It's outrageous that they're saying they can't go back and do the "fit person" for media ownership test again because they've already done it.

But they did it before we knew this, didn't they, so why can't they go back in the light of new information?

What sort of process doesn't allow new info to be taken into account, even if the bit of the process that is relevant to that new info, is in the past?

sharbie · 07/07/2011 16:55

wow no WOW !

all power to mumsnets' part in this - history being made no doubt

this HAD to happen - imo it means that for the moment the buck stops there instead of with DC/the police/anyone else.....

CrapolaDeVille · 07/07/2011 16:56

The Sunday Sun

EightiesChick · 07/07/2011 16:57

Dan Wootton has put out a 'personal statement' - as covered on the Guardian blog -

Dan Wooton, the showbiz editor of the NoW, has put out this "personal statement on News of the World phone hacking":

I'm not going to lie. Having a column in the News of the World this week has not been easy."

Yeah, Dan, it's all about you, isn't it? Cock.

He does go on to say he's disgusted, saddened, would never do it etc, etc, but the first few lines tell the story.

teej · 07/07/2011 16:58

herbex they did know, that's the point. the only difference now is we know.

EightiesChick · 07/07/2011 16:58

If I worked at the NOWT and had never had anything to do with this, I would be looking for anything incriminating I could find about Rebekah Brooks right now to take out of the building with me tonight.

emmanana · 07/07/2011 16:59

It's GONE

GrimmaTheNome · 07/07/2011 17:00

HerBe - well quite.

And govt complaining its hands are tied is pathetic. They are our lawmakers. They are supposed to reflect the will of the people. They can get law on the statute books sharpish if its something like the recent bail thing (whatever that was about).

Should we be writing to our MPs... not sure what exactly but isn't that what 'the people' are supposed to do?

hammybobs · 07/07/2011 17:01

Ah, the 7 day week sun just been mentioned by some bloke on sky news. It's been mooted for a while apparently. Such a cynical, playing to the gallery move by murdoch. sigh

catinthehat2 · 07/07/2011 17:01

Sun staff apparently told to prepare for a 7 day operation

GrimmaTheNome · 07/07/2011 17:02

..and on R4 just now. Do they think we're fools? ...oh, yes, they probably do think that of their readership.

mrsdonkeybucket · 07/07/2011 17:02

This is just damage limitation. I would not be at all surprised to see a 'Sunday Sun' in the very near future.

Wont it be terribly apt if certain papers imcriminating people are 'lost' when the paper closes ?

I am so disgusted by all the revelations we have been hearing, I don't know how any person could stoop so low.

I also think that Rebekah Brooks should be made responsible.

It looks more and more like Andy Coulson is going to be the fall guy for a lot of it. That guy on This Morning today was like a naughty child desperate to tell his 'side of the story'.

I also do not trust the Police one iota to investigate matters properly.

MmeLindor. · 07/07/2011 17:02

Emma Kennedy has tweeted that the Sun will be a 7 day paper, called it a "rebranding" rather than a closure.

stretch · 07/07/2011 17:02

I am hugely disappointed. Public support will now lose momentum.
Murdoch will re-brand it, then come September - fresh bidding for bskyb.
All the rest of the shit will be brushed under the carpet. Sad

David Cameron has a large part to play in this, I'm sure. Angry

teej · 07/07/2011 17:03

but Grimma the Cultural Media and Sport Committee basically said ages ago they thought NI had undertaken a lot of underhand activities. our culture secretary ignored that and did nothing while NI defamed the committee as being unfit for purpose.

they care for nothing, in truth, as long as RM gets what he wants.

Tolalola · 07/07/2011 17:03

Sorry to be cynical, but I agree that this is all an attempt to protect the BSkyb deal (and probably to protect Rebekah Brooks, as well, as she seems to have absolutely no thought of resigning and RM is seemingly not intending for a second to sack her)

MmeLindor. · 07/07/2011 17:04

@subedited: Sun staff have been told they are moving to a 7-day operation #notw #hacking

No idea if that is true, is being rted on twitter.

GrimmaTheNome · 07/07/2011 17:05

OK...so now if this is the plan then presumably advertisers now need to be encouraged to drop the Sun too?

mrsdonkeybucket · 07/07/2011 17:06

Agree, stretch

DC is one of the slimiest, dirtiest players I have ever had the misfortune to lay my eyes upon.

People power ? Do we want this coalition gone ? Maybe we should make our feelings even clearer.

Smellslikecatpee · 07/07/2011 17:06

Seriously what does RB know that she been so protected???

mrsdonkeybucket · 07/07/2011 17:07

It makes the mind boggle, smells, doesn't it ?

CrapolaDeVille · 07/07/2011 17:08

Jeez...What has she got on Murdoch? His child perhaps? Trafficking.....has to be fucking immense.
