probing dirty fingers into some one elses wounds and sorrow.. absolutley disgusting.. really how can they sleep at night..

Rebekah wade should go of course, if you accept the wage and perks of the boss then you should know what is going on under your nose...awful awful awful...

never brought the shite od the world anyway and never would

Ponders · 06/07/2011 21:00

Fox News = the US Sun Hmm

so much of the Murdoch empire is lowest common denominator it's even more scary to realise how much power our Govt allows it to think it wields Sad

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 06/07/2011 21:14

Hats off to Ford, Lloyds, virgin holidays and vauxhall for withdrawing ads from scum of the world. Hope more follow.

bkgirl · 06/07/2011 21:38

Come on Cameroon, if you let this sky takeover happen the stench will affect the tories big time. Something is badly wrong/illegal/corrupt - why are you supporting them and rewarding them? Seriously awful.

Smellslikecatpee · 06/07/2011 21:43

Am I very sad to wonder what exactly Rebekah Brooks/Wade has on all of them that is making her place so very secure? Or is it a ?if we let her go/ she quits? then we?re admitting fault???
Or am I been very sad/ naïve?

Though to me ultimate blame has to go to Rupert Murdoch he?s the big dog, big bucks = big responsibility.

Ponders · 06/07/2011 21:43

Tories will lose next election whatever happens now.

Might as well look after their pals Hmm

dsamm · 06/07/2011 21:45

The whole thing is a dirty dirty business. Rebecca should go and all the other senior people who were in positions of responsibility during all this.

It is beyond belief that one of the involved journalists is pleading for privacy for his family.

PS - Remember Vince Cable was punished for admitting he wanted to do battle with Murdoch?

IvyAndGold · 06/07/2011 21:46

not sure if anyone has posted it yet, but here is the list of companies who have withdrawn their adverts from NOTW so far.

changeforthebetter · 06/07/2011 21:50

The buck stops with Murdoch. I don't really give a damn about Brooks - evil deeds etc but it's him. However, I think he is unstoppable. We've been walking into this nightmare for years. He has too much power. Cameron can bleat away and pretend Osbourne's privacy has been violated. I do not think they can do anything with RM. I would like to see NI crumble and fail but it is not going to happen Sad Of course, I don't want to see ordinary people lose their jobs............... oh, wait, actually I live in a northern city, Labour stronghold, where lots of people (dozens of colleagues) have already lost their jobs (and mine is on a knife-edge) because the Murdoch press has been so enthusiastically supportive of the swingeing cuts to local services................. Hmm

Ponders · 06/07/2011 21:52

dsamm, Cable's stance on Murdoch was one of the better outcomes of the 'Coalition'

there are some good people in the LibDems but they have been squashed.

Maybe they can rear up a bit in the wake of all this

changeforthebetter · 06/07/2011 21:56

Ponders I don't think the LibDs have got the balls or the savvy for this. They were slaughtered in the local elections and have lost so much credibility. Cameron successfully tarred them with the blame for the coalition's less um, popular decisions. Actually, Cameron should explain what the fuck he was doing - employing a man who appears to have been engaged in serious criminal activity as his Director of fucking Communications????!!!! Actually, I'd like two silver salvers please - one for Murdoch's head and one for Cameron's, please!

lalalonglegs · 06/07/2011 22:04

I think it's a bit naive to blame Rupert Murdoch for this. The NOTW is such a tiny, tiny part of his empire - he jets into London once very few weeks, all the execs get very nervous/excited but I don't think he has anything to do with the way his papers are run over here. He wants to know that they are the "top" papers in terms of either prestige or circulation and he wants to know why they aren't making as much money as they should be (there's been a lot of that lately I suspect) but I can't imagine any of the people on the ground would dare to tell him what they get up to. All you could say is that they are so scared of him, that they will go to any lengths to stay in favour including, it would seem, these disgusting episodes of phone hacking.

I agree that he has too much power, that his empire is too big but I really don't think the buck stops with him on this one. It's Brooks and Coulson (and probably every other red top editor) who have to carry the can.

NEWS FLASH: BBC news is saying that Glen Mulcaire had the private phone numbers of relatives of servicemen and women killed in Afghanistan and Iraq in his files Shock.

sharbie · 06/07/2011 22:04

agree because of ac the buck stops with cameron

Ponders · 06/07/2011 22:06

I don't think he has anything to do with the way his papers are run over here. He wants to know that they are the "top" papers in terms of either prestige or circulation and he wants to know why they aren't making as much money as they should be

read that back to yourself, eh, lala Hmm

changeforthebetter · 06/07/2011 22:10

Oh lala-whatever your name is - you are deeply naive. Of course RM knows exactly what goes on in his empire. The man is meglomanic. Anyway, back to whatever you are smoking, eh, luv? Hmm

Hassled · 06/07/2011 22:10

Cable has come out of this with his halo well and truly polished, hasn't he?

AwesomePan · 06/07/2011 22:11

The buck does in indeed stop witn Cameron. Today.

But it stopped wih Blair and Brown previously and they successfully ducked it. Recall Blairs first act in 1997? To fly out to the other side of the world for an audience with RM. No wonder he thinks he owns the country.

Any chance of all of these snivelers actually stand up to the school bully?

changeforthebetter · 06/07/2011 22:13

Yes, Awesome - Blair is just as much to blame for the Murdochisation of our media. He took RM's silver too

Hassled · 06/07/2011 22:15

Pan - I don't think it's as straightforward as just needing to stand up to the school bully. I think the school bully probably has a whole sackload of shit about them all and they're paralysed by fear.

lalalonglegs · 06/07/2011 22:17

I think I've got a reasonable idea. Believe me, he could not possibly micro-manage individual companies like that - NI barely figures in his global assets. It's like saying Steve Jobs must know the way customer returns works at the Apple store in Regent St.

It's Coulson and Brooks who are responsible for this - they can't possibly not have known.

AwesomePan · 06/07/2011 22:17

yes hassled - it's the fear thing that bullies rely on, n'est-ce pas? but take your point of course.

Ponders · 06/07/2011 22:23

lala - so in your opinion Murdoch has no responsibility for what his minions did?

ThisIsANiceCage · 06/07/2011 22:24

Rupert Murdoch's level of culpability may be hard to establish. But I'm willing to bet son James is pretty much level pegging with Rebekah Brooks.

He's personally close to Brooks and the pair barged into the Independent's newsroom last year to have a go at the Indy's editor in chief.

He holds senior positions in both BSkyB and News International.

Hassled · 06/07/2011 22:26

Steve Jobs probably does know exactly how the Apple returns system works - I don't think people like that get where they are without an extraordinary ability to know exactly what's going on throughout their organisation. But yes, I do see your point - and it's a moot point; none of us can possibly know.

Agree that Brookes and Coulson both must have known - and if they really didn't, they should have known. They have to take responsibility. This "I was on holiday" stuff is just not an excuse.

Ponders · 06/07/2011 22:28

James Murdoch was fingered in Parliament today as having tried/bribed to cover up previous corrupt practices at the NOTW.

& Rebekah Brooks ex-Wade now has a very senior position in NI.

Murdoch's hands are dirty.
