It'd be very interesting to know if the Camerons or other high profile politicians have had their phones hacked. It makes sense that they woulod have been. I mean sense in the way that why wouldn't the hacks have done it when you look at whose phones they have hacked.

Hassled · 06/07/2011 17:18

MrsDeVere - that is just so awful I don't know what to say. I'm sorry.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 06/07/2011 17:19

Same sort of pathetic response from tmobile.

So

No need to review. It is clear that NOTW have behaved in a deplorable manner. Your customers need to know that you condem their actions. As a PP has stated - you are a mobile company. How can we, as your customers be assured that you are protecting our security? This is very much a case of if you are not condeming their actions you are condoning them. There is no middle ground.

FFS they are a phone company!

thefirstMrsDeVere · 06/07/2011 17:20

The Body Shop have confirmed that they do not advertise with NOTW and that they have no plans to do so. They have asked to be removed from the list the Guardian has published.

Do you think they advertise in other NI publications though?

thefirstMrsDeVere · 06/07/2011 17:22

Thank you for your comments re my experience with Sky.

It was very distressing but of course I had not time to follow it up as DD died shortly after.

Thats why they get away with this stuff.

OMG I know school work has kept me away from real life but have just opened the Independent's supplementent to read about Rebekah Brooks and Murdoch. Had no idea that he was in bed with so many influencial people. By that I don't mean MPs but John Wittingdale, Tory Chair of Commons media select committee. Gosh, that's a little too cosy for me.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/07/2011 17:41

Well done Justine and all of today's campaigners. You are doing MN proud. Been a manic sort of day so just catching up. How can the average Joe Blogg help please? (with Virgin, read Telegraph, what can I boycott? and who should I be emailing?)

Christ MrsdeVere - that is dreadful. Yet not surprising.

Did anyone watch that trilogy of programmes a couple of years ago called 'Red Riding' - about police/governmental/newspaper corruption? it was really, REALLY dark and harrowing. Virtually unwatchable, in fact.

This unfolding saga is very redolent of it. Very.

donnie · 06/07/2011 17:54

TT who is RB?

sovreign · 06/07/2011 17:56

Just reading about how she single handedly promoted the Sara Payne 'Sara's Law' campaign. Think using the deaths of Milly, Jessica and Holly just shows how cold she must be. No wonder Murdoch thinks she is good at her job, not many men could be that cold. Don't think it should all fall at her feet, even if Murdoch has secured her finances by giving her a few paintings. Off with his head!

HerBeX · 06/07/2011 18:00

RB is Rebekah Brookes, Rebecca Wade as was, Donnie

donnie · 06/07/2011 18:01

doh, Rebekah Brooks of course. I keep thinking of her as Wade.

Did anyone see the cartoon of her today - graun I think - as a Medusa whose head RM had severed? very apt. She is poison.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/07/2011 18:03

list of advertisers and what they are up to

after dinner I'll be writing to a few companies and telling them why we are boycotting them.

donnie · 06/07/2011 18:12

Well, I just clicked on the New York herald tribune to see how it is being reported globally; the International herald tribune is its global edition and it is running it as a leader - well worth reading.

Importantly (imo) it links to an excellent piece which I urge all doubting Thomases to read (not that there are any left) - no good at links but google

ADAM CURTIS - 'RUPERT MURDOCH - A PORTRAIT OF SATAN'.

NormanTebbit · 06/07/2011 18:13

I like that headline. Nice, balanced...

hurricanewyn · 06/07/2011 18:16

Just had this back from Renault after my email :

*Thank you for your email to our Managing Director, Thierry Sybord, on the subject of the alleged phone hacking by the News of the World.

In response to your request and to clarify our advertising position with the News of the World, we have made the following statement:

Renault acknowledges the concerns raised regarding the allegations of phone hacking by the News of the World. As a result of the seriousness of the continued allegations, we can confirm that Renault has no media advertising currently planned with the News of the World, nor will we commit to any future activity, until the outcome of the formal investigations is complete.

Once again we would like to thank you for having taken the time to share your view on this subject with us.*

They and Tesco are the only ones who have bothered to reply so far

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/07/2011 18:17

Has anyone emailed Sainsbury's?

Littleredant · 06/07/2011 18:18

MrsDeVere, another reason to despise Sky. How could they do that to you?

sovreign · 06/07/2011 18:19

The ultimate irony. A good friend of RB nee Wade is Carphone Warehouse boss Charles Dunstone. Sounds too good to be true but guess that's where she got her phone hacking knowledge. Article here says she is also good friends with David Cam, riding on several occassions, so obviously not as much of a family man as I thought. Oh, and Jez Clarkson. Still wonder what it would take for Murdoch to fall.

chibi · 06/07/2011 18:21

Ok i want to reject murdoch and all his works

Can anyone who has access to which? tell me what their recommended freeview recorder is?

tia

Littleredant · 06/07/2011 18:23

donnie, feel the connections between Murdoch's lot and the police political establishment doesn't do this country any favours at all. Sadly, don't know if this will be anything more than a 48 hour frenzy.

Pannus · 06/07/2011 18:26

If you are horrified by what the NOTW has been doing. You have 1 day to hit Murdoch hard where it really hurts by responding to the consultation on the BSKYB merger:
To: [email protected]

Subject: Bskyb - newscorp consultation

Dear Jeremy Hunt

I along with every single adult I have spoken to today is totally opposed to
you allowing the Newscorp takover of Bskyb.

Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation already owns 40% of British newspapers and
40% of BSkyB, the UK?s largest commercial broadcaster. In the US, Australia
and elsewhere this degree of media dominance would not be allowed. News
Corporation has admitted responsibility for hacking the phones of
politicians and celebrities
, and now stands accused of tampering with the
phone of a murdered 13 year old girl. But your government wants to give
Murdoch power over half of our media, allowing him to then squeeze out his
rivals one by one.

How dare you hand over our cherished freedoms and the rights to
dissemination of varied points of view to one, global right wing media
group?
Surely you are educated enough to see the immensity of what you are doing?
Control of our media is more important than ever in the world of today and
the future. I am outraged by this move and fearful of the kind of world you
are handing over to my children.

You are voted into power to serve the people of the United Kingdom and you
seem hell-bent on serving the ministrations of Rupert Murdoch and his clan.
You should be ashamed of yourself. If you were a man you would refuse to
see this through and resign. At least you would be able to look your
children in the face.

happygilmore · 06/07/2011 18:27

DH came home and told me he had emailed the NoW to tell them exactly what he thought of him today, I'm sure they won't care, but I bet they've had many more emails like that.

That is completely shocking MrsDeVere about Sky. Who on earth could behave in such a callous way? Oh of course, an organisation that thinks it is completely untouchable.

I agree with you about momentum, this really needs to continue, now, because there are a lot of powerful organisations who will do everything they can to stop it.

I actually think Ed Milliband was very brave (if that's the right word, he was hardly wrestling lions) for what he said today. He knows NI will hold a grudge for this, Dave on the other hand was pathetic.
