Which supermarket should I use to buy the weekly shop? I need to go this evening.

My choices are;

ASDA
TESCO
MORRISONS
CO-OP
SAINSBURY
ALDI

The Times and Sky are gone from Chez Scarlett.

BornSicky · 06/07/2011 16:46

co-op or aldi.

asda and tesco have said they considering at present.

freybean · 06/07/2011 16:47

that guy in the beidge jacket is getting a right beating on bbc news :-)

lionheart · 06/07/2011 16:49

Well done, MN (and Justine).

YaMaYaMa · 06/07/2011 16:50

Just put BBC News on after reading your post, Freybean. That guy is terrible!

PurpleStrawberry · 06/07/2011 16:50

'Deplorable' and 'unacceptable' - was Murdoch talking about himself there?!

Nancy66 · 06/07/2011 16:51

Coofonz your story is absolute bollocks - no tabloid editor ever punched a woman in the face and knocked her out.

BornSicky · 06/07/2011 16:51

that's paul mcmullen;the guy hugh grant caught out.

he looks like a greasy hack!

freybean · 06/07/2011 16:51

and he keeps digging and digging........

YaMaYaMa · 06/07/2011 16:52

He really does look like a greasy hack, you're right! He seems like a terrible person who has no insight into why hacking into the phone of a murdered child is wrong. Wtf is wrong with these people?

freybean · 06/07/2011 16:53

born - that explains why hugh grant kept having sly digs at him

thefirstMrsDeVere · 06/07/2011 16:53

Hello all,

been at work.

I had a response to my continued posting on T-Mobile FB page (I found it really hard to contact them via the website). They kept deleting but eventually answered. They said they were reviewing the situation and awaiting the out come of the police investigation.

I have asked them why they need to wait. This is not a vague allegation I do not see the need to hang about.

And this is why I am worried and why I think that people pester power is really important in this case. Of course they will hang back if they think they can ride out the storm.

I am watching BBC news 24 and I read that the Coop were also reviewing rather than withdrawing.

I am concerned that it is the more 'high end' companies that are taking a stand whilst the Morrisons etc dont want to because they know their demographic are far more likely to read the NOTW.

I am going to check my email to see if I have any more replies.

I am so heartened that so many people are so disgusted at what has happened.

I am very Hmm at Tesco hinting that the fuss and them getting involved might somehow be worse for the Dowler family. Like they are taking a higher moral stand by not getting involved.

Oh do fuck off.

Just one more thing. If you ever had any doubt about Sky. I cancelled my subscription when my DD was ill and i had to give up work. They harrassed me for months and months to resubscribe. It got so bad, with so many calls that I eventually told them that my DD was dying and would they please stop calling me as it was a distraction. She was literally dying at this point.

They refused to stop calling me unless I consented to allow a representative to come and visit my home to discuss my options.

This is true. I swear it. They refused to stop calling me even though I told them my child was dying of cancer unless I let them come to my house (presumably to pressure me even more).

I hate SKY.

KatieScarlett2833 · 06/07/2011 16:54

Co-Op and Aldi it is.

Would usually be Tesco so that's £100 of my cash they wont be seeing.

sayanything · 06/07/2011 16:56

Oh my god MrsDeVere, that's appalling.

emmanana · 06/07/2011 16:56

I can see your point about people having to clear up the newspapers, and my comment was half tongue-in-cheek, but by removing them from the usual point of sale (till none are left) would hopefully mean that as few sales as possible go through the tills (if people can't be arsed to search the store for a copy) then fewer and fewer copies will auto ordered for the next week. Like everybody, I just feel so angered by all this, and want to do more than just cancelling subscriptions/boycotting products.

Charvie · 06/07/2011 16:56

I try not to go to Tesco...luckily I have a great butchers next to dh work which have started to stock fresh veg now and my little corner shop is a Co-Op Grin

Charvie · 06/07/2011 16:58

and i have been in my local newsagents and they have a pile of 'Sun' papers which is very unusual for them :)

BerryLellow · 06/07/2011 16:58

:( MrsDeVere

We're locked into a subscription at the moment, I'm v annoyed.

Don't buy papers anyway, apart from Saturday Guardian.

AuntieMonica · 06/07/2011 16:59

thefirstMrsDeVere that's is an abhorrent story, but i believe that about Sky TV.

They had me in tears when I called to cancel my subscription 2 years ago, and my circumstances were nothing like yours

I hate the company, I hate what they do to their employees (ie make them as ruthless as the bosses) and I hate what they do to customers.

PurpleStrawberry · 06/07/2011 16:59

Am I a bad mum if I stop my DCs watching Murdoch owned Nickelodeon?

Jux · 06/07/2011 17:05

PurpleStrawberry, it was a quote from Murdoch vis a vis the NotW hacking.

Still, I am quite impressed that he knows the words at all, but I suspect he doesn't actually know what they mean.

Jux · 06/07/2011 17:08

Funnily enough, you've just reminded me of when we cancelled mum's Sky subscription when she died. My brother actually rang them and he came down with a bemused look on his face, but didn't tell me what had been said, he just said "don't worry about it".

A couple of days later a couple of Men in Suits from Sky were at my doorstep... They were a little sheepish when I screamed at them.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 06/07/2011 17:10

My response to Tesco's response that they are blah blah, reviewing blah blah..

Tescos please stop sitting on the fence.
You either condem or condone.

Its that simple.

I also find it slightly offensive that you are hinting that you are standing back in order to protect the Dowler family from further distress.

Tesco is not percieved as the most ethical of companies as it is. Do you really wish to add to the perception with your lack of action in this case.

sovreign · 06/07/2011 17:12

I don't want to lower the tone but a serious point here; if Sam Cam's mobile had been hacked into after the death of her child, what would Downing Street's stance be? MP's and our PM should consider the views of the greater public rather than that of their friends and fundraisers. A sad day for the brave journalists who risk their lives to tell us the truth.

PurpleStrawberry · 06/07/2011 17:16

MrsDeVere - that is appalling, utterly appalling.

I have heard some horror stories from people who have cancelled Sky, heck they harassed us for a while after we cancelled, but what they did to you is despicable.
