I just read an interesting article, in the Guardian, defending tabloid newspapers' right to exist, and the good they can do. Including, just sometimes, NOTW. It's quite two-sided, with interesting first-hand accounts of the tabloid culture in the office. It does absolutely NOT support Murdoch's dominating empire, or condone the phone tapping.
The writer concludes if this row weakens the press rather than merely regulates its excesses, it will be a good day for the rich and powerful (including dodgy press barons) and a bad day for most of us. Ponder it before you throw too many bricks.
It's worth a read for anyone interested in what the future of British journalism should, or might, look like.
