apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

OP posts:
donnie · 06/07/2011 13:13

so has mitsubishi

forkful · 06/07/2011 13:14

"Justine, our CEO, will be on Sky News at 1.30pm" - but we can't watch it because we're all boycotting them! Confused Wink

SpringHeeledJack · 06/07/2011 13:16

yay for the co-op

madamimadam · 06/07/2011 13:19

...and Cameron has just announced a public inquiry (Ok. Let's hope it's not Hutton Mark II) but no pause to BSkyB deal. Because that's what really counts.

(Wouldn't you even out of decency pause it? Or so you didn't look completely under the NI thumb?)

Hassled · 06/07/2011 13:19

forkful :o.
You're not selling your soul if you're watching Sky to see them take a battering. You're just sort of pawning your soul - not the same at all. I'm almost sure of it.

BornSicky · 06/07/2011 13:20

aldi pulled out of advertising too.

can we nominate an MNer to watch SKy News and then provide a transcript? Grin

GetOrf · 06/07/2011 13:21

"I think Justine has made an ethical judgement (probably completely lost on NI) that some retailers (I'm looking at you Tesco. What does it take, eh?) haven't had the courage to follow, at real cost to MN. "

Excellent post

annoyingdevil · 06/07/2011 13:23

Great stuff, but do we really believe the average bloke will stop watching Sky Sports or not buy his NOTW this Sunday?

Jux · 06/07/2011 13:25

Well done Justine.

CinnabarRed · 06/07/2011 13:27

A colleague has just ordered a subscription to the Times Online, specifically so she can phone them to cancel, and tell them why!

RossettiConfetti · 06/07/2011 13:27

annoying devil, no I don't.

To be honest, if people really cared about boycotting companies that are evil to children (and that's just the start) we'd all boycott Nestlé. There evil that company has done over the last few decades puts NOTW in the shade. They actively killed babies. Yet our fridge and cupboards are still full of their products.

I'm feeling a little despairing today, sorry.

Though well-done Mumsnet on the News International advertorial decision, I really admire that. It's an ethical decision that will have financial repercussions for you, and it is one of the reasons I love the existence of Mumsnet.

Hassled · 06/07/2011 13:28

The average bloke won't ever stop watching Sky Sports, and the idiots who read the Sun won't stop reading the Sun. If they were bright enough to understand why they should stop, they wouldn't have been reading it in the first place. Thus NI's future is safe.

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/07/2011 13:29

I actually have more faith in NOTW readers, and I really believe we'll see sales down on Sunday.
I think they will be equally disgusted about the Milly Dowler aspect, everybody has followed the story, we can't assume every reader isn't equally as disgusted as we are.

NormanTebbit · 06/07/2011 13:29

Yes I'm grinning to myself about the men who are 'looking into' getting rid of Sky.

BornSicky · 06/07/2011 13:29

lots of DPs/DHs upthread switching off and boycotting.

and here's interesting - readership is roughly equal split between the sexes:

Readership: 7,489,000

ABC1 readership: 2,799,000

Male readership: 3,911,000

Female readership: 3,577,000

Average readership age: 44

MmeLindor. · 06/07/2011 13:33

Am watching Sky News. Had to search for it as I had no idea what channel it was on (136 if I forget)

Hassled · 06/07/2011 13:34

MmeLindor - I had to Google it :o. 602 if you're with Virgin.

Now, where is Justine?

emmanana · 06/07/2011 13:34

Shame I can't add photos to MN on the go. Just posted a picture on my Facebook of the local newsagent on my way to work. All newspapers nearly sold out. Huge pile of The Scum sitting there unsold. My newagent is scaling down his order big time from tomorrow!
How fab if is this happening up and down the country!

Hassled · 06/07/2011 13:35

Those stats re NoW readership are interesting - I'm amazed how small the male/female split is, and how old the average age is. I had this stereotype of a late 20s man in my head.

Hassled · 06/07/2011 13:36

Justine out of breath - has clearly legged it there.

freybean · 06/07/2011 13:36

justine is on now

TheRhubarb · 06/07/2011 13:37

Justine looks completely out of breath! Still making a good case though.

madamimadam · 06/07/2011 13:37

Sorry but boycott will be minor irritant to NI at best. They will know it is a temporary reaction and NI will recover in 6 months or so. It means we've got a public inquiry but that's about it.

At risk of sounding a bore - it's the BSkyB deal they care about - and it will sail through without a hitch for them.

It is the end of days...

TheRhubarb · 06/07/2011 13:38

Great plug for advertisers - well done Justine!

CinnabarRed · 06/07/2011 13:39

Robert Peston is of the view that that the BSkyB deal will have to be postponed, if not scrapped altogether.
