apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

I am emailing the advertisers, and linking this thread into the email; with the suggestion that some of their advertising budget be directed towards Mumsnet, where they will reach a more discerning potential customer....

CatIsSleepy · 06/07/2011 10:20

god it just gets worse and worse
7/7 families
unbelievable

SpringHeeledJack · 06/07/2011 10:23

thanks Triplets

Terribletriplets · 06/07/2011 10:28

I got it from, cif, spj.

PurpleStrawberry · 06/07/2011 10:29

MNHQ - I wish I had the money to give you the £30k you have given up due to your ethics.

E-mails have been sent.

I await my no doubt standard replies.

SpringHeeledJack · 06/07/2011 10:29

bit of light relief here

Al0uiseG · 06/07/2011 10:31

I do hope that you are all cancelling your Sky subscriptions.

CatIsSleepy · 06/07/2011 10:32

gawd bless the guardian though

there was a horrible thread the other day by LFN crowing about the fact that it is not doing well financially. If it went bust where would that leave us? even more firmly in murdoch's sticky grasp.

have emailed the c-op, signed the petition and linked to it on facebook.

Halogen · 06/07/2011 10:33

liberalconspiracy.org/2011/07/06/the-campaign-for-an-advertiser-boycott-of-notw-how-you-can-help/ is a useful page for anyone wanting to contact advertisers re NOTW.

Also www.pint.org.uk/notw.html for those who use Twitter.

wishingchair · 06/07/2011 10:34

Ditch Sky. It's such an awful company. We got rid last year and got a FreeSat+ box - you just install it yourself. It's great and we don't have to pay anything to Murdoch.

Peetle · 06/07/2011 10:35

And people complained when Vince Cable said he was "declaring war on Rupert Murdoch".

PinotsKittens · 06/07/2011 10:36

YY peetle I thought that too.

Bumperlicioso · 06/07/2011 10:36

Great response MNHQ.

PurpleStrawberry · 06/07/2011 10:43

When Jeremy Hunt approved the takeover, my DH's response was, "what does Murdoch have on the Government?"

Makes you wonder doesn't it?

Terribletriplets · 06/07/2011 10:45

My message of 10:28 should have read:
'I got it (the list of the email addresses of the advertisers) from Cif, SHJ'
(it was a scout hut comma)

My message of 10:10 contains a list of the email addresses of the CEOs of the advertisers with NotW.

GrimmaTheNome · 06/07/2011 10:51

And people complained when Vince Cable said he was "declaring war on Rupert Murdoch".

I didn't. I just thought it was bloody silly of him to have got quoted on it.

donnie · 06/07/2011 10:54

PurpleStrawberry - that was my dh's response as well.

If you read the full transcript of Hugh grant's taped conversation with the ex NOTW hack he quotes the latter as saying the reason so many tory MPs resigned in the early 90s is because the papers had most of them over a barrell with secret recordings of shifty stuff they'd been up to. I have no doubt that the same is true of current politicians, not just Tory but Labour too.

So it would appear that no MP is willing to really take this on because of what might be revealed about them. It is no less tham blackmail as far as I can see.

Peetle - good point about Cable.

donnie · 06/07/2011 10:57

IIRC Murdoch also attempted to acquire Chinese citizenship so he could buy up a load of the media there. I am sure I read that in an article in the New Statesman a couple of years ago. Am going to check it out now.

donnie · 06/07/2011 11:03

There is quite a bit about Murdoch's tax avoidance habits on wikepedia.

ThisIsANiceCage · 06/07/2011 11:12

Thanks for that link to the Information Commissioner's report, archfiend.

Here it is again for anyone who missed it:
What price privacy now? The first six months progress in halting the unlawful trade in confidential personal information.

Published in May 2006. This shit's been known about for a long time...

CatIsSleepy · 06/07/2011 11:13

'>And people complained when Vince Cable said he was "declaring war on Rupert Murdoch".

exactly grimma. He should have been a bit more subtle!

PinotsKittens · 06/07/2011 11:18

Aww, he was talking to a constituent who goaded him about the subject. He wasn't to know she was really a miked-up undercover reporter.

Email addresses of the CEO's of NOTW main advertisers....always best to go to the top.

PurpleStrawberry · 06/07/2011 11:25

According to this page on Wiki:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/News_Corporation#Newspapers

BSkyB also has a 17.5% stake in ITV, although this is to be cut soon for legal reasons.

Oh and I'm also boycotting any films from Fox Studios, regardless of how much I want to see them.

APieOfButter · 06/07/2011 11:26

I thought the co-ops big thing is that they are ethical?
