apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

I will be very interested to see/hear what Cameron has to say about his close friendship with Rebekah Wade, since it now appears that all of her denials have been proven as lies. What will he say to adequately defend the fact that he rubs shoulders with the person who sanctions payments to bent coppers and to private investigators who will deliberately interfere with the process of justice.

I would really like to hear his defence of that . Oh and also his defence of the BSkyB takeover by Rebekah Wade's lovely boss RM.

sonearsofar · 06/07/2011 07:38

I agree with everything that's been said here and this is, I know, really minor, but, much earlier on, a poster said that they couldn't cancel Sky as otherwise they got no TV reception. Well, living in a rural area, we subscribed on the cheapest package to SKY and cancelled after the 1st year. Years on we still have the satellite dish and sky box, and good reception for terrestrial channel. No Sky channels, which is fine by me, and we're not paying Sky anything.

HollyGoHeavily · 06/07/2011 07:48

Well done Justine - you have done the right thing, lets hope others follow suit quickly....

I've been looking for something to cancel to register my total disgust at what has happened at NI but we are already a Murdoch free household! Guess i'll be watching the companies who are still advertising with the NOTW and directing my spending power elsewhere....

thefirstMrsDeVere · 06/07/2011 08:05

www.co-operative.coop/contactus/

Details for the Co-op. They are a company that trades on their 'good for everybody' ethos.

I will be utterly disgusted if they dont pull their support for NOTW.

I went to them for my DD's funeral because of their ethical reputation.

VivaLeBeaver · 06/07/2011 08:05

Daily Mail story on this is reporting that MN has pulled their Sky advertising. Well done MN.

PurpleStrawberry · 06/07/2011 08:27

Well the answer to my question, about what on earth would come out next, has been answered fairly quickly with the revelation 7/7 families may have had their phones hacked.

It gets worse every day.

Whatever next? The phones of British 9/11 families?

Heads must roll. Preferably Murdoch's.

Greythorne · 06/07/2011 08:38

It seems so simple to the rest of us, but jot to the execs involved.

Either:

  • Wade and Coulson knew and should be sacked immediately (OK, I know Coulsin doesn't work there anymore). No payoff. Dismissed for gross, gross misconduct.
  • Wade and Coulson did not know and should be sacked for being crap editors out of touch with what's happening on their watch.

Anyone just hear the NI apologist on the Today programme? What a weasel.

Dianella · 06/07/2011 08:39

Congratulations to Ford and any other company that follows suit and stops advertising in the NOW. A general boycott of the Murdoch press (Times, Sun etc) would do the trick I think - they're very interested in the bottom line and seeing a dramatic drop in sales is likely to make them take notice. Don't buy these rags.

PurpleStrawberry · 06/07/2011 08:52

According to my cousin in the US, Murdoch had to become a US citizen in order to buy the media outlets he owns there.

One has to wonder why we don't adopt the same laws.

thederkinsdame · 06/07/2011 08:53

I've signed the online petition and DH is looking into cancelling our Sky subscription but I feel we should all do more to make Murdoch and Sky know that this is NOT going to be tolerated by us.

DH has suggested we make a list of all the companies that are advertising in the NOTW this week and put pressure on them to boycott NI. Anyone else think this is worth a punt?

GrimmaTheNome · 06/07/2011 08:58

Yes, why not? Seems like quite a lot are weasling that they won't pull advertising while the issue is still under investigation.

e.g.from telegraph

17.50 Other advertisers will continue to advertise in the News of the World while investigations continue.

WM Morrison and The Co-operative supermarkets are standing by the News of The World by continuing to advertise in the paper.

The Co-operative Group, which also owns The Co-operative bank, said in a statement:

The Co-operative Group believes it would be irresponsible to contemplate a ban on advertising in the NOTW based on allegations that are still being investigated.

Tesco responded to questions on Facebook:

These latest allegations will cause huge distress to a family which has suffered enough. It's now a matter for the police. Like everyone, we await the outcome of their investigation.

archfiend · 06/07/2011 09:03

Just seen a link to an information commissioner report on privacy. P11 gives a list of organisations alleged to have used illegal private investigations. Notw not at the top of the list but pretty near. Hugely unsurprised by who is at the top, but shocked by the numbers of investigations.

Wantingvalium · 06/07/2011 09:08

@ MrsDeVere,
I have sent an email to the co-op. You said that you had sent a load of complaints to the advertisers with NotW. Would you give the email addresses of the other advertisers? Thanks!

thederkinsdame · 06/07/2011 09:12

Sorry, have to get to work, but will be back tonight and emailing as many companies as possible.

Wantingvalium · 06/07/2011 09:17

Email: [email protected]

Wantingvalium · 06/07/2011 09:22

@thederkin, I think that MrsDV has done this. I think it is a great idea.

MissM · 06/07/2011 09:44

Am listening to this with tears in my eyes. This is disgusting behaviour. Absolute shame on the lot of them.

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/07/2011 09:48

I'm so proud of MNHQ.
No faffing about, just an immediate ban of Sky advertising, and at a financial loss for them.

The big companies who are still advertising with NOW can still advertise elsewhere and would get a lot more respect if they would do the same. They should take note that it is still possible to take a moral and ethical stance, and show everyone how it's done.

jenny60 · 06/07/2011 09:54

Well done MNHQ and thanks for the patronising refernce to us last Newsnight Hmm

SpringHeeledJack · 06/07/2011 09:56

I know I've done this already, but will do it again in case people haven't seen the whole thread

if you really want to hit Murdoch in the pocket, and try to ensure he doesn't get control of even more of our media, please do sign/circulate petition here

there's 2 million plus signatures already.

GrimmaTheNome · 06/07/2011 10:00

(hm... that site says there are 2857852 signatures so far on each of the three issues it lists. ???)

StupidSexyFlanders · 06/07/2011 10:02

I have a 2 year contract with sky :( I don't want the fucking thing what can I do?

SpringHeeledJack · 06/07/2011 10:07

bum. I thought it seemed quite a lot

Terribletriplets · 06/07/2011 10:12

The link above is the email addresses of the CEOs of the advertisers, so my request to MrsDV is redundant.
