apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

wow that was quick! V proud :)

Suncottage · 05/07/2011 22:04

I would like to see the editors of the News of the World and Rupert Murdoch in the dock answering some serious questions that they cannot wriggle out of.

Or would they threaten to investigate the private lives of the judges and stop the trial?

Cynical? Maybe.

AmyStake · 05/07/2011 22:05

The only way Rebekah will go is by a very, very generous pay off by Murdoch. She will have so much dirt on him he'll have no other option.

I'm intrigued by topuptv. I read it had National Geographic on there but on the site it doesn't actually tell you what channels you get when you pay, only freeview channels you can get. Anyone got it?

GetOrf · 05/07/2011 22:06

Blimey at all this. And well done Justine et al. Real credit to you for that.

mrsD your posts are utterly heartbreaking, I totally agree with you and your anger.

This is disgusting. I am a complete Times/Sunday Times addict, as have a lot of time for Caitlin Moran, India Knight, Janice Turner and other columnists, but have cancelled by electornic subscription to timesonline, and will be going over to Virgin after this. The bastards. The scousers have kept up the boycot for over 20 years, let's see if a boycot can be maintained out of respect for the Dowlers and how they have been treated.

GastonTheLadybird · 05/07/2011 22:10

ITV news journalist has tweeted that senior News Int exec has confirmed Brooks will resign tomorrow morning and then deleted it, that link still has it though.

Hmm Hmm

MrsChemist · 05/07/2011 22:14

Good on MN!

I was thinking about getting Sky sometime soon. I don't think I'll bother.

madamimadam · 05/07/2011 22:16

I've not been on MN for a while but just wanted to say a huge thank you to you, Justine for cancelling the Sky ad. It must have hurt MN to do it but was absolutely the right thing to do. (And I'm sure we'd all rally if MN needs to make up the shortfall.)

I thought Hugh Grant was spot on (words there I never thought I'd type...). The politicians will do nothing meaningful about this. The only way to change this is by boycotting NI and all who advertise with them.

thefirstMrsDeVere, my heart just broke reading your posts. Such love being sent your way.

And you're right, we mustn't let their advertisers think this is just a flash in a pan.

EightiesChick · 05/07/2011 22:17

Gaston That link now leads to a blank page, for me at least. Wonder who's reading this thread?

Anyone who sees anything comparable - copy and paste if at all possible as it may be whisked away at any moment.

stretch · 05/07/2011 22:20

Link won't open yet. must be everybody trying to see it.

BornSicky · 05/07/2011 22:20

ChrisGibsonITV BREAK - @tomwatson tells @itvnews that a senior News Intl executive has confirmed to him Rebekah Brooks will resign tomorrow morning.

that's what it said... all speculative of course!

Camerondiazepam · 05/07/2011 22:21

There was something on the Telegraph homepage A minute ago saying some victims of 7/7 also had their phones hacked, can't get in or link to it at the moment but will do when I can.

Words fail me.

stretch · 05/07/2011 22:25

Aww, diddums Hmm

hester · 05/07/2011 22:26

Many thanks MNHQ.

EightiesChick · 05/07/2011 22:32

Suncottage just to be very clear and fair (more so than the NOTW have ever been) Mulclaire asks for his family to be left alone rather than himself. Direct quotation from the Guardian article:

"I know I have brought the vilification I am experiencing upon myself, but I do ask the media to leave my family and my children, who are all blameless, alone."

EightiesChick · 05/07/2011 22:33

Many of his other comments in that piece mix ridiculous and despicable, though.

Piffpaffpoff · 05/07/2011 22:36

Im sure Piers Morgan wrote in his first book about knowing about some journalists who were accessing voicemail. Will go and have a re-read and see if I can find what he said.....

MollieO · 05/07/2011 22:36

I think it is reasonable for the media to respect Mulclaire's family's privacy in the same way he respected the privacy of the 7/7 victims' families, Holly and Jessica's families etc.... Hmm

Suncottage · 05/07/2011 22:40

What really makes me feel very strange about Glen Mulclaire is that he asks that his children 'who are blameless' to be left out of the furore. I agree totally. They have nothing to do with the actions of the father.

The children he violated after their deaths were also blameless. Children who were murdered.

He made a living from them.

I cannot understand that rational. Sad

Well done MNHQ for stopping the adverts.

EightiesChick · 05/07/2011 22:48

Anyone watching Newsnight? DH is watching some cheesy film on Syfy so I can't find out what's being said.

EightiesChick · 05/07/2011 22:49

Agree with you Suncottage but it's no reason to sink to Mulclaire's level and bring his kids into it. Though I imagine it's unavoidable if they have his name.

mrsdonkeybucket · 05/07/2011 22:50

Utterly despicable.

Good call, Mumsnet, great to see your swift response.

EightiesChick · 05/07/2011 22:50

It is pretty galling the way privacy is requested though given that the NOTW clearly have no respect for anybody else's.

Piffpaffpoff · 05/07/2011 22:51

Found it - in Piers Morgans first book, he wrote on 26 Jan 2001 that he wondered if someone had listened to his voicemail following a flurry of stories about him when he was being investigated about a share deal he had made. So that is over 10 years ago.
