apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

OP posts:
Ponders · 05/07/2011 20:19

when they discovered that messages were being deleted they thought it was proof of life and the investigation was apparently re-focused on her being a runaway

hence all the stress on her father's embarrassing secrets (poor man)?

the NOTW screwed the Dowler family up big time, didn't they Angry

CrapolaDeVille · 05/07/2011 20:19

My mother has an internet TV and BT. There's always freeview too!!

TalkinPeace2 · 05/07/2011 20:21

We have 3 days left to stop Rupert Murdoch's media takeover - send your message to Jeremy Hunt's consultation calling for a full review and an inquiry into hacking scandals -- it can make a massive difference!

AwesomePan · 05/07/2011 20:22

have just checked freeview - only cbbc for children.

Ponders · 05/07/2011 20:22

unfortunately my kids (over 18) watch a lot of Sky programmes Sad

TalkinPeace2 · 05/07/2011 20:24

Then they should learn not to.
Ask them to pay for their amorality themselves

LucaBrasi · 05/07/2011 20:25

They, (NI) are scum. I always knew they were, but this is lowere than pigshit

Bollocks to her email as well. IMO, it is 'inconceivable' way that Rebeka Brooks could NOT have known.

Did you see the NI chappie on Channel 4 being interviewed by Jon Snow? The NI guy effectively buried her, with his bustling claims that she could investigate herself. It was head in hands stuff.

However, it not just about collecting scalps. NI needs to be boycotted on a mass scale. It is with some regret that I don't buy their newspapers, in that I can't stop now, nor do I have SKY, but I will be emailing the relevant authorities.

And despite the PCC being historically damp squid in regard to NI, large numbers complaining will have to be reported at least and put some pressure of Cameron to rein in the Grand Master. And not award him that fecking contract which will further his suffocating swamping of the UK media.

That bit not too likely though.... re the article in Guardian today www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/jul/05/milly-dowler-phone-hacking-cameron

Former deputy prime minister Lord Prescott said on Twitter that he would write to the culture secretary, Jeremy Hunt, demanding he block News Corp's bid to take full control of pay-TV company BSkyB following the revelations about Dowler.

However, John Whittingdale, the chairman of the culture, media and sport select committee, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that phone hacking at the News of the World should not taint the rest of Rupert Murdoch's empire.

"You cannot necessarily condemn the entire of News Corp just because of the actions of some individuals in another part of the organisation," he said.

"News International is a part of News Corp but it's a different part. News Corp is a global enterprise and I don't think one should condemn the entire organisation because something very clearly was going wrong in the News of the World."

When Today presenter Evan Davies pointed out to the Conservative MP that News International had denied wrongdoings at the News of the World despite having evidence that could suggest hacking was ongoing, Whittingdale responded: "Well, they denied it to my committee."

Funny that....

AwesomePan · 05/07/2011 20:25

bit harsh there Talkin.

Terribletriplets · 05/07/2011 20:25

She does not have dirt on the family.

ouryve · 05/07/2011 20:25

Ponders - if you already have a sky dish, you can use that for freesat. In fact, if you cancel your sky subscription, you will still be able to use your existing equipment for free to view channels until you can make other arrangements.

We cancelled Sky about 4 years ago because it really wasn't worth the money. We used the old equipment until that died and by that point, our ancient TV needed replacing, too, so we got a new one with inbuilt freeview and freesat decoders. awesomepan the only channels we do miss are the nickelodeon channels. The kids mainly watch CBeebies and some tiny pop. CITV never has programs they like when they're off school. Channel 5 has some great kids programs in the mornings, many the same as Nick Jr, but DS1 disapproves of channel 5, so we just have to settle for the odd recorded episode of Thomas the Tank Engine on our freeview pvr. (For novelty value, S4C has some good kids' programming in the mornings - DS1 does watch that, so long as the subtitles are working!)

thanks for the link Talkingpeace2. Will do!

Ormirian · 05/07/2011 20:27

We have freeview and nothing else. Apart from the internet. I think they're OK.

Ormirian · 05/07/2011 20:28

I mean my kids.... I think *they're OK

perfectstorm · 05/07/2011 20:32

You know, sometimes I love Mumsnet so much. This is one of those times. It's so nice to see something actually done about something so horrible.

Georgimama · 05/07/2011 20:32

My big fear about all of this is that Levi Bellfield's defence will appeal his conviction on the basis the deleted messages are evidence pertinent to the case. I have no doubt that he killed her, but the conviction is largely based on circumstantial evidence.

Chipotle · 05/07/2011 20:35

I've just annoyed myself by checking the news on my iPhone with a Sky News App!! That's being deleted.

ThisIsANiceCage · 05/07/2011 20:35

Achhhh!

That murder investigation ginmakesitallok mentions, where it's just come out tonight that a senior policeman was followed and possibly hacked?

It's the Daniel Morgan case I was talking about above. Where the accused happened to be a private investigator who'd previously paid police officers for info for NOTW.

Jesus. Is this what they meant by "worse than hacking Millie Dowler's phone"?

And we de-Skyed a few years ago, too, and happily use our dish for the excellent Freeview, with a Humax box that can record, do live pause, etc.

housemum · 05/07/2011 20:39

I've cancelled Sky Sports and Movies but I really can't do without TV at all (I know, it is a bit weak, I'm sure there are lots of people who don't have a TV on principle but I can't do it). At least that's halved their income from this family as it was the lion's share of the bill, looking up telephone bills and will probably move that to Plusnet so that's more money away from NI. Now, how to tell DH he hasn't got the sports channels...

Flowerista · 05/07/2011 20:39

If I were the CEO of Virgin Media I would be urgently rolling cable to those parts of the country that don't have it. If I were in charge of Freeview, or any other digi service I would be taking out TV and press ads advising people how to transfer. If I were an advertiser I'd be pulling my account today. For the rest of us, whilst Murdoch owned publications proliferate there are alternatives and we should use them to express our outrage.

MmeLindor. · 05/07/2011 20:41

My parents have BT vision - does that only work in certain areas?

We have a similar set up here - tv through Internet connection

Suncottage · 05/07/2011 20:44
