apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

Sugarpastefrog I would still like to know

a) had the police had thought of it?
and
b) did the investigator/hacks/NoW try to check whether it was definitely the case that the police had thought of it, by trying to talk to the police.

I've got sky tv. Never been happy about this, for a few reasons, but pressure comes from dd for the nickelodeon channels. But this does change things a lot.

Popping over to Geek stuff for advice on how to maximise children's tv sans Mr Murdoch and NI.

ginmakesitallok · 05/07/2011 19:55

Midnight - what on earth are you talking about? Had the police thought about what? Are you suggesting that the NoW were hacking phones on behalf of the police? Now that would be a scoop!!

Terribletriplets · 05/07/2011 19:56

Would anyone pm me if they want to give the emails of the CEOs of the advertisers tomorrow? Or has someone done it? I am a sahm and can do it tomorrow if no one has done it. I have Sue Perkin's list to go on.

I feel shocked at the turn of events however i think people like john presscot are very low to make party political capital out of the name of Milly Dowler.

AwesomePan · 05/07/2011 19:58

thanks but isn't Virgin by cable? I live semi-rural so we have no cable.

ginmakesitallok · 05/07/2011 19:59

channel 4 exclusive

AwesomePan · 05/07/2011 20:00

chipstick - Idon't know what Presser said but he has been a high level, noisy vocaliser about the hacking issue and the lack of action by the Met Police.

meditrina · 05/07/2011 20:01

It beggars belief to think the police wouldn't know about full mailboxes, or indeed anything whatsoever about the mobiles of a person in whom they had an interest. They have, under RIPA, complete legitimate access to everything connected with such phones, and will get complete (and pro-active) co-operation from all the networks on cases such as these.

nethunsreject · 05/07/2011 20:02

I am shocked, but not surprised.

My late Father boycotted the Murdoch publications from the beginning. I have done the same. I'd love satellite telly, but no way would I give that bastard my money.

Ormirian · 05/07/2011 20:03

I wouldn't get sky nor read any tabloid newspapers. I can happily do without the occasional copy of the Times I might buy.

This whole episode is simply the epitome of modern lowest common denominator media. Vile vile vile.

Ormirian · 05/07/2011 20:04

My dad too nethuns. And I think he was right,

Suncottage · 05/07/2011 20:06

Just got an email from a friend and she has cancelled her subscription to Sky. That makes six that I know personally.

Chipotle · 05/07/2011 20:07

I'm going to cancel my Sky tomorrow... They're going to ask for a reason and try to tempt me to stay. Can someone more eloquent than me tell me what to say. At the moment I can only think of 'F&£K OFF'.

Something really needs to be done to clean up our media. NoW may be guilty of hacking mobiles but all of the other papers and news channels need to take a good hard look at themselves and their behaviour too.

Ponders · 05/07/2011 20:09

I have the same dilemma as Pan - no cable here, & as a bonus our terrestrial reception has always been rubbish (close by a hill between us & transmitter) so freeview no go either.

TBF I don't know if the switch from analogue to digital makes any difference to that?

Terribletriplets · 05/07/2011 20:09

@Chipotle, send them a link to this thread, and let them have a think on that. That is what I am going to do with Tesco.

What's the betting that they hacked the McCanns phones as well?"

BBC reporting Clarence Mitchell (their spokesman) has been itw detectives.

TalkinPeace2 · 05/07/2011 20:16

Just remember that although News International are the most vile,
all the papers are vile
How many of them said they would never use paparazzi shots after Diana died?
How many merrily do exactly that day in day out
Phones are harder to hack now - that is the only reason it has slowed down
BUT
Paying bungs to bent BT / DVLA / police / tax staff is still a staple of the WHOLE of the British gutter press.
If you REALLY want them to change, you have to stop using their products (and that includes clicking on the websites)

I will not have Sky Tv or any Murdoch paper in the house. That has been the case since he bought the Times.
Its an ethical thing.

And he won't sack Rebekkah - she has the dirt on his family.

AwesomePan · 05/07/2011 20:17

yep - Virgin offers vvv fast b/band but it's all on cable.

don't think dd is going to understand at all. She's 11. Is this just going to be part of growing up and having a stubborn daddy....?? I suspect her mum will feel the same way and ditch her sky. (we live separatley though close by.)
