MN killed it with the scorn over wooden letters :o

End of an era. Think IKEA probably killed it rather than MN, though :)

Mammonite · 24/06/2011 18:40

Nooooooo

I love Habitat. Haven't bought anything there for years though. Same as quite a lot of us by the sound of it.

Panzee · 24/06/2011 18:45

Aw. I wanted to get a sofa to match my sofa bed.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 24/06/2011 18:45

Or my Tzaria dinner service :(

fuzzywuzzy · 24/06/2011 18:51

I can't tell my sister - her entire house is a Habitat homage

pointydog · 24/06/2011 19:06

Always thought it was over-rated.

TheCrackFox · 24/06/2011 19:09

We just ordered a coffee table on Monday from them - guessing we won't be seeing that anytime soon.

BitOfFun · 24/06/2011 19:10

Oh bugger, Crackfox- will you get your money back?

SpringHeeledJack · 24/06/2011 19:14

there's a time and a place for that sort of thing, and this ain't it

pointydog · 24/06/2011 19:17

It gave up the marketing ghost in the 90s though, didn't it. It was a shadow of something very 1980s. Not in terms of products, just image.

going · 24/06/2011 19:24

I loved looking but rarely bought anything. Won't feel the same if it's owned by the same people as Argos and Homebase!

QueeferSutherland · 24/06/2011 22:22

I really loved Habitat.

I love the pieces I have from there. They still make me smile when I use them.

I stopped shopping there when the Southampton store closed though.

trixymalixy · 24/06/2011 22:26

Tzaria is long gone gwendoline, they stopped making it years ago. I have a search set up on eBay to try and find bits.

Thecrackfox, they are going to honour existing orders and try and sell it as a going concern.

I'm gutted, it's my favourite shop Sad

trixymalixy · 24/06/2011 22:27

I need another chest of drawers to match my bedroom furniture. Hope I can get it!

hester · 24/06/2011 22:31

Now, that is a shame.

Ryoko · 24/06/2011 23:03

It's a sign of the times, the condems are squeezing all the disposible income out of peoples pockets, Moben Kitchens and Dolphine Bathrooms have fallen as well.

Roll on the double dip, the "I told you so" and anarchy on the streets.

edam · 24/06/2011 23:40

oh, that is a bit sad. When I was little I used to love looking in the catalogue and imagining I lived in all the different interiors.

Ryoko's probably right. Apart from the anarchy bit - we don't seem to be terribly good at that any more.

kerstina · 24/06/2011 23:46

Am really sad about this. I love habitat and we were going to buy another sofa to replace the old cordroy sofa we bought from there about 12 years ago. Ikea does not compare.

c0rn551Lk · 24/06/2011 23:48

I have never bought anything from Habitat despite it being just down the road. It is ££££ and incredibly poncy.

trixymalixy · 25/06/2011 00:01

I don't think the prices were that bad considering quailty. The bedroom furniture we bought from there was solid wood and proper dove tailed joints.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 25/06/2011 08:37

@Ryoko.... Moben Kitchens and Dolphin Bathrooms were grossly overpriced - that's why they're failing. By contrast, placed like B&Q and IKEA have upped their game and are doing a brisk trade in more reasonably priced kitchens and bathrooms. Even when money's tight, the businesses that adapt to the market will continue to thrive.

Decorhate · 25/06/2011 08:43

Have just seen this. I love my Habitat sofa bought many years ago. But the nearest branch to me is always very quiet, not surprised this has happened tbh...
