Can't find a nrews report but there must be one. It was the topic of discussion on LBC this morning.

It was a few years ago. He was part of a gang that kidnapped 2 girls and took part in raping these girls, at knifepoint, 45 times I think it was. He was given 7 years and served 3, that info is correcxt.

He's looking at £50,000 compensation and trying to relese a record to raise more money.

Personally I think he should give the money to the 2 girls who are scarred for life emotionally. Whay compensation did they receive for his crime on them?

Certainly changed my view on him.
Makes me feel sick.

I agree with you, TC

oliveoil · 17/11/2005 11:11

kama

NomDePlume · 17/11/2005 11:11

I don't know. Yes, his crime was abhorrent, but he has served his time for it in the eyes of the law.

I think he should get the compo.

tiredemma · 17/11/2005 11:12

saw it in the "sun" (!) today. His defence now is that he "didnt ask to be sat opposite a bomber who blew my leg off"

mmm sure his victims didnt ask to be gang raped.

Janh · 17/11/2005 11:12

It's in the Sun of course.

I agree too, TC.

NotQuiteCockney · 17/11/2005 11:14

I'm with NDP. "Getting your leg blown off" is not the punishment for rape. He served his time, and this is a different issue.

NomDePlume · 17/11/2005 11:15

Thank F for that NQC ! I'm not a lone voice.

ThomCat · 17/11/2005 11:15

Yep, and I agree with Olive - Kama.

If there were ever a perfect example of what goes around comes around.

If he gets that money he shouldn't keep it.

He committed a most disgusting, terrible crime.
Yes he "served his time" but 3 years, come on.... jesus. He should be allowed to serve his time and then live a normal life, but he should struggle and forever more work hard at repenting and feel the weight of that crime like a lead cloack every day of his life. He shouldn't be helped to build a better life with £50,000 and the people buying his record. Live your life Gary - but not with the help of cash from the state. Give it to your victims.

I thought it said he was wrongly accused of rape ?

nutcracker · 17/11/2005 11:16

In yesterdays Mail it says he was cleared on appeal.

QueenEagle · 17/11/2005 11:16

I agree he has served his time for the crime he committed.

If he had served the full time in prison maybe he wouldn't have been caught up in the bombings. Maybe justice has been served - he is the one who has to live the rest of his life without his leg. If I were one of his victims I would be glad he'd been crippled. And I wouldn't want his money.

Janh · 17/11/2005 11:16

Nope, he did it.

He claimed the conviction had been quashed but it hasn't.

spidermama · 17/11/2005 11:17

I know NDP and NQC are right really, but I can't find any sympathy for him. Three years is ridiculouly short a sentence for what he did.
I know the leg thing isn't related but I can't help hating him none the less.

NotQuiteCockney · 17/11/2005 11:18

He's not being given £50,000 because he raped someone, he's being given £50,000 because he lost his leg.

If he can't have his money because of the rape case, what does that imply? Someone who mugged someone when he was 18 (convicted, served time), and loses a leg at 50, does he get his money? Where do we draw the line?

NomDePlume · 17/11/2005 11:18

But, TC, the length of his sentence was the fault of the justice system, he didn't sentence himself !

QE, the 'dirty money' comment is a very good point.

NotQuiteCockney · 17/11/2005 11:19

Oh, I'm not saying this makes him a nice person. I'm not saying I'd have a drink with him, or buy his record. I'm just saying the rape conviction shouldn't affect his case for compensation.

ThomCat · 17/11/2005 11:19

If it was your daughter, or your mother, or a friend that had been raped, 45 times by a group of men that inc this Gary, would you still think he had served his time (3 years) and that he deserved to be compensated for losing a leg - £50,000 worth of state money????

In a nutshell spidermama. He is despicable and three years is a disgraceful sentence for anyone committing that sort of crime. But he is still entitled to the appropriate compensation for being caught up in 7/7 - with one leg, TC, and a deserved criminal record, he's going to find it rather harder than most to find a job. I certainly wouldn't buy the pig's record though...shudder...

ThomCat · 17/11/2005 11:20

i'm saying he shouldn't keep the money.
I'm saying he should give it to his victims.

OP posts:
starlover · 17/11/2005 11:21

it just seems so unfair though doesn't it.
the girls who were kidnapped and raped get on with their lives... with who knows what kind of repurcussions and effects..

and he goes on to live his life having served a ridiculously short sentence and then gets handed £50,000

ok, i know he hasn't got the money yet, and i realise that losing your leg is also an horrific thing to go through... but still

Marina · 17/11/2005 11:21

QE - and I wouldn't want his dirty money either, good point.

NomDePlume · 17/11/2005 11:23

I'm not even going to dignify that with an answer.

marthamoo · 17/11/2005 11:24

He found the rape conviction was still on his record when he was arrested for burglary three years ago. Nice guy.

I know that NCQ and NDP are right. The logical part of me knows that.

But there's a little voice in my head saying it's a shame he didn't get his penis blown off too.

QueenEagle · 17/11/2005 11:24

TC - as emotive a subject as this is, yes I think he should be entitled to the money. Even if it were me or my dd, yes he is entitled. I would hope that even after something so awful and traumatic, I or dd could move on and not allow this man to make me bitter and twisted for the rest of our lives. Maybe that's easy for me to say; thankfully I have never been in such a situation.

I committed a crime when I was a teenager - if I won the Lottery next week would it be wrong for me to be happy and enjoy that money because I transgressed as a youngster?

ThomCat · 17/11/2005 11:25

Are you talking to me NomDePlume ????
