It is causing total mayhem everywhere.

fire

I had to collect dd from school at 12.30pm as they'd had a power cut. Dh will be home from work soon as they have lost power and are using their emergency generator.

It's not good round here

I've just rung dp as he's in the Bournemouth office today and he said that they have only just had the power put back on (just outside town centre) Just seen it on the news though and it must have been terrifying for the people next to the pylons

I'm supposed to be holding a stall at our local library tonight - just phoned them and they said that they are using their emergency generator. Even if the power comes back on - they may not open this evening for health and safety reasons. Guess it could all go off again couldn't it?

Honestly - we can't handle anything in Britain can we?

DDs head at school said how did they deal with the hurricanes in all those other countries? We can't even cope with a fire.

Caught the end of the news when I was dropping dd at pre-school. I wondered what had happened. It must have been chaos at that time in the morning.

Ridiculous isn't it??

They did an interview with someone from the electric company on the news and she said that the power wouldn't be sorted until very late tonight/middle of the night/tomorrow and that everyone should look after their neighbours but stay inside. Not much help really if you have children/babies!!

Quick hijack - Sparkler, what time did you say to pick me up tomorrow? Head like a sieve at the moment!

SPARKLER1 · 15/11/2005 14:29

Surfermum it was mayhem this morning and still is!!!!

Will pick you up at 7.15pm.

We are just about to be plunged into darkness. They are supposed to be switching electric off in my area between 6pm and 1am tonight. We are sat here waiting with candles.

sparkler - reading that article it seems not so much that we can't deal with a fire - but rather than the electricity company aren't allowed onto the site to fix the thing until the fire/police give the ok - I'm guessing with a fire of that magnitude they have to make sure it's safe first.

Not sure about the Councellors comments - surely it should be the other way round - why was a scrapyard given planning permission (unless it's been there since before the pylons.....) underneath it??

Still an absolute bummer
