Uganda's proposed 'gay death penalty' bill - they're voting this week

For those of you who have been following this horrific news story, the Ugandan parliament is due to vote on a proposed bill to imprison and execute people for being gay. The vote will take place in the next day or so. According to The Guardian, the international opprobrium against Uganda has caused some of the officials involved to reconsider, including the man who first proposed the bill. But if the vote is carried through it will at least mean imprisonment for being gay, let alone all the other publically-sanctioned persecution of gay people.

There's a petition which you can sign on avaaz.com - I honestly don't know if it will do any good but considering the fact that the international reaction appears to have had some impact it's worth a try. Please do vote and pass on the link to as many people as you can.

Bump. I've already signed the petition. Speedy, can you link to this in Chat? I'm sure you and I aren't the only MNers to be appalled by this.
