Killer father felt left out after his baby girl arrived.

Mark Bruton Young smothered his six month-old daughter, having researched the ways he could get rid of her, and whilst apparently suffering post natal depression.

He was also angry with his wife and wished they could go back to being a couple.

Is it post natal depression or sociopathy?

And isn't PND caused by hormonal imbalances as a result of pregnancy/birth? How can you get PND if you have never been pregnant or given birth???

His wife is the one to blame though really for not giving the poor man enough attention. Wink

DuelingFanjo · 08/05/2011 21:30

Presumably if they do ever have other chilren then social services will make her choose between him and the baby.

ohmyfucksy · 08/05/2011 21:30

I do think using 'male PND' as an explanation for this is bollocks. It was massively premeditated, he was researching it for months.

Was that picture of him and his wife taken before he was found guilty? Maybe she believed he was innocent? If I was her they'd have to lock him up to keep him safe from me.

He'll probably get quite a light sentence, as the barrister will argue that he was 'provoked' by the effect the baby had on the marriage. I bet anything.

Northernlurker · 08/05/2011 21:31

He hasn't been found guilty yet - the trial is ongoing.

DuelingFanjo · 08/05/2011 21:53

I wonder why it's taken almost 2 years to come to court?

DuelingFanjo · 08/05/2011 22:04

there's more info here. :( seems to me he definitely didn't want a child.

confuddledDOTcom · 08/05/2011 22:15

Male PND does exist, not so much in the hormonal sense but any life changing event (which let's face it a baby is) can cause depression, if you add in lack of sleep too it can have a big impact on anyone.

Using it in this case is ridiculous though, as has already been stated, if it was depression he would have snapped, not planned it. If it was puerperal psychosis (which I couldn't see in a man at all!) it would be "Quick! There's the devil! Kill it!" not thought about. Birth Trauma can also be suffered by a man because it's PTSD has the opposite effect of making the sufferer over protective - personally I'd have preferred I was dead because in my head I was a danger to my baby.

ohmyfucksy · 08/05/2011 22:20

"Over the next few months his searches explored death by anti-freeze poisoning, lead poisoning and the effects of punching a child in the stomach. He searched 'dies of suffocation' on June 8, 2009"

fucking hell

megapixels · 08/05/2011 22:31

PND, my foot. He was so ill that he planned it for ages and even researched ways to do without getting caught Hmm.

He sounds like evil personified. Jealous of the baby indeed, I hope she leaves him and no one ever has him again.

ChristinedePizan · 08/05/2011 22:32

God that is hideous isn't it? :(

saffy85 · 09/05/2011 07:07

Antifreeze? Lead poisoning? Punching a baby in the stomach? That isn't someone with PND that's someone who hates their baby and wants her to not only die but to suffer horribly. It's sickening. He needs locking up and they should throw away the key. Fucking vile revolting monster.

MollysChamber · 09/05/2011 09:29

Oh he'll get what's coming to him.

I don't imagine they like baby murderers very much in prison.

Laquitar · 09/05/2011 09:35

Being tired and stressed thu because it is a big life event is different to suffering from a huge hormonal imbalance. I find the term 'male PND' very insulting.
It is like being tired after a 10 hrs work shift and claiming that it is the same like the tiredness of a person who suffers from diabetes or thyroid.

carriedababi · 09/05/2011 11:21

bloody hell what is she doing staying with him

it sickens me they way people pander to men after babies are born, women feeling guilty that the baby is crying all night etc

some men really need to grow up.

Housemare · 09/05/2011 13:11

Oh boy, is he gonna have fun in prison.

It won't be at Her Majesty's pleasure, either.....he will get what's coming to him, rest assured.

shmoz · 09/05/2011 13:19

Nah, they'll have to keep him in solitary..so as not to breach his human rights or some such bollocks a la Ian Huntley.

Makes my blood boil Angry

confuddledDOTcom · 09/05/2011 16:11

So there's no depression like PND then?

Sorry I totally disagree! I've had depression for most of my adult life and even my childhood to some extent. I've also had PNI and I don't think there's a difference in what I've been through either pre or post baby. In some ways PNI was easier to deal with than what I went through before as I had something to keep me going.

electra · 09/05/2011 16:20

I don't necessarily believe he is a sociopath - he has a mental health problem. If he's psychotic then this could be the explanation for what he did (obviously I don't know but just wishing to offer a more balanced perspective than the hang-him Daily Mail brigade here seem to have). Some women get something called puerperal psychosis - where they are mentally ill and one symptom is belief that the baby is evil.

What an awful story Sad

electra · 09/05/2011 16:24

You can be psychotic and not behaving with a sense of urgency.

I researched ways to kill myself, quite calmly looking on the internet during a depressive phase of my bipolar illness. I thought this was a perfectly reasonable thing to do at the time. I was not connected with reality at all but neither was I rushing around in a frenzy.

MarioandLuigi · 09/05/2011 16:30

I cant understand the wife standing by him.

I hope the jury see past his crock of shit story and give him the long sentence he deserves.

LadyWithNoManors · 09/05/2011 16:37

I hope he gets sent down for a very long time. The fact that he tried to cover it up and lied to the police say to me that he was completely in control of what he was doing.

"the whole school hated her"

god, no wonder she is so messed up then Sad

kitsmummy · 16/05/2011 20:35

She wasn't bullied. She was a truly vile person, which is why people hated her. Honestly, don't have any possible sympathy for a bad school experience turning her this way. It was her actions and personality which people judged her on.

Northernlurker · 16/05/2011 20:41

Kitsmummy - those posts are way out of line. By all means think what you like about this woman but to speak about her school days on a public forum like that is totally unecessary. I have reported your posts and I hope they will be removed.
