Anyone else think that she should be doing the work that is associated with her new life of luxury? Justify the expense to the taxpayer and get out and fulfil the usual royal diary of visits.

OP posts:

Would you have her life? I know I wouldn't. It's a gilded cage.

But regarding the earlier comments on feminists thinking she should work I don't agree, surely feminism would dictate that she has the choice to work or not and would be treated equally whatever her decision?

What does Chelsey do? Now she DOES look fun

Georgimama · 03/05/2011 20:54

Chelsy is a lawyer, or a trainee one. Bright girl, although the connections probably did no harm.

carminaburana · 03/05/2011 20:58

It's not just that feminists think she should work ( although I'm sure they don't all think that ) - they seem pretty annoyed that she got married at all.
There's a thread that keeps coming up in active convos 'a feminists view on the Royal Wedding' ( or something like that )
I can only imagine the delights being posted on that thread -

Portofino · 03/05/2011 20:59

Let's face it, she could have been financially independant and had no need to work WHOEVER she married.

wook · 03/05/2011 21:00

Lazy parasite.
How is this workshy scrounger any better than the women who get a daily bashing on threads here and in the pages of the Daily Mail?
I'd love two years off to loll about getting facials and manicaures, putting flowers in vases and applauding my man in pointless sporting events.
Oh no, hang on, I have a bit too much self respect to doss around on my arse all day long.

GeorginaWorsley · 03/05/2011 21:01

Good on her.
She should relish a few short years of 'normality'.
Bloody hell,I certainly wouldn't want to work in her position,or any position if I didn't need to ,for that matter.
But I am a lazy cowGrin

Want2bSupermum · 03/05/2011 21:01

Georgimama - I think the fact she is attached to Prince Harry alone got her into the trainee position. She looks like a mess half the time. There is zero excuse to leave the house in the morning without putting a brush though your hair, putting a pair of tights on and looking like you have fallen out of a nightclub!

Al0uiseG · 03/05/2011 21:05

Wook I've had 15 years "off" not too many facials though! Please don't refer to me as a lazy scrounger though!

Georgimama · 03/05/2011 21:07

I don't doubt it, but she had to get through a degree, the law conversion course and the LPC first. No matter who she was shagging the SRA wouldn't have let her off those. I've done them and they aren't easy (although I doubt she did hers whilst working full time and having a baby).

StatelyPoshBeartrothal · 03/05/2011 21:09

carmina, do you seriously think women shouldn't work and that the UK would be a better place if the men went out to hunt and gather and the women stayed behind and shined their shoes and arranged their berries in a pleasing fashion on a plate?

Are you called Dave?

Portofino · 03/05/2011 21:11

When we first moved abroad, I didn't work - for the first time in my life. I had LOADS to do. I got a job far too quickly. I don't understand why she has to be in paid employment or be a lazy scrounger. Her husband is supporting her, or she probably has her own money. That's how it worked for me.

StatelyPoshBeartrothal · 03/05/2011 21:12

what did you do, out of curiosity, Porto?

LadylissielouofShropshire · 03/05/2011 21:14

i think what carm is saying is that she is in a position, and has the right, to not work if she wishes. its just as valid a choice to stay at home as to go out to work.

I wouldnt be her for all the tea in china, and when we retire at 65 or whatever, she will keep working until the day she dies. all under intense media scrutiny and with people pursing their lips at every decision she makes, the clothes she wears, her weight, how quickly she gets pregnant, IF she gets pregnant and all under the shadow of her sainted dead MIL.

The queen is in her 80s, Charles in his 60s. The likelihood is that the Royal stuff will ramp up big time in the next ten years, and by the time Will and Kate are in their early 40s it will be Full Time For Ever!

I am in my early 40s and DH a bit older. We are planning our retirement, when we get to have a rest and the like. A rest! They will have just STARTED working. Give her a break. No wonder she took a long time to answer him. She has signed her life away.

StatelyPoshBeartrothal · 03/05/2011 21:16

What she actually said though was:
"She's a young woman who's married the man she loves in a church - and no doubt they'll go on to have 2 of 3 kids and (hopefully) live happily ever after.
Honestly - what more does any woman want?"

which I take issue with. Have no problem with anyone choosing it, but the opinion that it's every woman's fantasy is what I am taking issue with.

LadylissielouofShropshire · 03/05/2011 21:21

but a huge amount of women (and men) DO want that. to get married and have a family and just be happy. some want a career as well, others dont (again, men and women) the thinking of some people seems to be "you must go out to work for the rest of your lives and cant possibly be happy and fulfilled unless you do, and if you CHOOSE not to, you traitors to your sex"

Portofino · 03/05/2011 21:23

When I didn't work? I had a new flat to sort and furnish. I had language lessons. I had to sort creche, then school for dd. I had to register with job agencies and do tests. I travelled to job interviews. I had to sort out the local commune stuff. I had to try to meet people to make friends. I know full well that I continue to do this stuff despite working full time. Apart from my maternity leave this was the only extended period in my life that I never "worked".

StatelyPoshBeartrothal · 03/05/2011 21:25

Biut I don't think that lissielou. I think that's as extreme as assuming every woman wants to not work and live off her DH's salary. I am for choice but really offended by assuming that every woman's dream is to give up work.

StatelyPoshBeartrothal · 03/05/2011 21:27

Thanks Porto :o Actually I can imagine she is having language lessons, as well as probabl learning to identify all foreign heads of state etc etc.
You were job hunting, which doesn't really count as not working in my book. They are renting so surely a limit to how much nesting she can do - in case the landlord hates their taste :o

Interested about commune?? And confused about the "despite working full time" comment

StatelyPoshBeartrothal · 03/05/2011 21:27

oh and oyu obv had DCs which I consider a FT job in itself

Portofino · 03/05/2011 21:31

I meant I work FT now and continue to organise everything, I am just more knackered now! Grin

meditrina · 03/05/2011 21:35

SPB: I think it might be worth continuing the post you quoted from carmina, as she continued:

"Honestly - what more does any woman want?
A life of single motherhood struggling alone whilst juggling 3 jobs?
Or maybe Kate should be a crop haired animal rights activist who dabbles in lesbianism at the weekend? "

I don't think it was intended as a serious opinion on "what any/every woman wants", rather a way to highlight it's a choice many would make, given the right resources (and right man) at the right time.

Portofino · 03/05/2011 21:36

And looking for a job can be bloody hard work. I spent an entire day doing "tests" at Toyota in Brussels - including attention to detail bollocks and complicated mental arithmatic - not even remotely relevant to the job I applied for. I scored extremely highly, then at the end of the day they told me as I was not fluent in Dutch, it was highly unlikely any of the hiring managers would see me. (My non-dutch speaking status was clear on my CV along with my 15 years of professional experience). Day and resulting migraine entirely wasted.....

SybilBeddows · 03/05/2011 21:38

I must admit I'm feeling rather wistful about the idea that William should have fallen in love with a crop-haired animal rights activist instead. The Daily Mail would have spontaneously combusted.
And the 'William and Kate' made-for-tv movie on Channel 5 would have been a hell of a lot better.
