"But the four actresses, two of whom allege the director also tricked them into working for him for nothing."
and
"She said she did 20 or 30 such "tests" between 1996 and 2001"

Sorry I'm not laughing but surely you'd realise something wasn't right long before you got to 30 tests and no cash.

Maybe so, but such is an industry where graphic 'real' sex is becoming the norm. I mean, they could've been auditioning for Rome.

haven't watched any of it yet. Is it all sex sex sex.

amybe I'll watch it then

Sorry, had to rush off before I'd finished.

Seriously though, I think there is a debate to be had about just how far actors are supposed to go these days. Real sex on stage has been the norm for certain shows in the Edinburgh Festival now for a few years. Respected film directors such as Michael Winterbottom and Lukas Moodysson are asking the same from their actors. Isn't art supposed to be about exploring life through metaphor? I'm actually a member of equity. I should ask them what their policy on this is.

blimey, MT....far to deep or me at this time of the morning but I'll try and keep up.

I say real sex isn't for stage or film unless it's one of those films. Yuk at it being on stage.

This is where I come over all Mary Whitehouse and think that maybe the ole bat had a point.

Let's face it, if you have to actually have a f**k on stage, that's not acting.

monkeytrousers · 05/11/2005 16:22

Oh! Have you seen your review of Rome Cali??

Really, this happened at the festival at least last year. Kirsty Walk was talking about it on Edinburgh Review. I didn't see it myself though, I admit. Wouldn't want to either.

And even though it happens rarely on film, don't you think that more dubious directors can use the fact the Winterbottom et al have done it in order to persuade less experienced actresses ( as with the cast in point) that it's now more common, even approaching a 'norm'.
