I am so shocked angry and upset by this. How can a society call itself civilised when it allows this to happen?

Im from this land. How did it come to this?

Back in 2002 i remember my father describing those people as animals from the jungle (doesnt translate well) everyone i know thought that. so how does the supreme court of a country go about overturning a decision like this.

It is awful and horrific. Poor woman and also her poor younger brother. In such a misogynistic land one can only say "education, education, education" and hope one day these medevial ways change. I hope she stays safe and wish the worst on those men and the judges.

mountaingirl...well said, medieval attitudes and education education education. obviously there are many in that nation that have a more modern attitude to equality and justice but sadly it seems those who hold the power remain those who do not think in those terms

maybe the answer is for nations such as ours to discourage, in some way (not sure what though), the large scale migration of those who are more highly educated from countries with these issues. not sure thats a very well thought out argument but it seems they are most needed there not here? (thats not an anti immigration rant btw)
