Prince William refuses to wear a wedding ring

I just don't understand why anyone wouldn't want to wear something that symbolises their love and commitment to someone? In makes things appear a bit unequal to me.

It's so he can pick up girls in bars anonymously no?

TobyLerone · 01/04/2011 10:39

How is wearing a ring 'honouring your partner'?

mateysmum · 01/04/2011 10:39

I reckon less than 1/2 married men wear a wedding ring. For both sexes it's a matter of choice. The royals sometimes wear a signet ring on their finger, so maybe Wills doesn't want to be too blinged up. Don't think it means he loves Kate less. He's not refusing to honour her.

"Perhaps he doesn't want anyone to know he's married cos it'll cramp his style"

:o

Maybe Kate will leave hers on the bathroom windowsill once she gets home from the Abbey and takes off her incmfy shoes and stretches out.

If I was married I wouldn't wear a ring all the time. Gold rings wouldn't be my style, rings are uncomfortable for permanent wear, I don't feel the need to signal anything about my personal elationships to veryone I meet over a counter.

Shrug.

"If I was married I wouldn't wear a ring all the time. Gold rings wouldn't be my style"

But not to wear one at all though?

Men of that class don't wear wedding rings.

BendyBob · 01/04/2011 10:46

Maybe he'll have a servant to do it for himWink

notcitrus · 01/04/2011 10:46

So do I. Never managed to keep a ring yet for more than a week without losing it.

And people ask 'how are you going to know you're married without a ring' - for starters I was sober during the ceremony, and there's this 6-foot bloke hanging around...

In William's case the entire rest of the country can remind him if necessary!

My dad's of the opinion that rings on men, or any other jewellery, make you look like a second-hand car dealer from Essex, and that seems quite common.

Abr1de · 01/04/2011 10:46

ANd lots of other men in other classes don't wear rings. Considered a bit unmasculine. My husband and father and FIL don't wear them. I don't think my brother does either.

TobyLerone · 01/04/2011 10:47

Why does it matter if they know you're married or not?

I think men that class do - after all, Prince Charles does - depending on their personal preference.

Palace spokesman said it was the Prince's personal choice - he doesn't like the feel of rings and doesn't wear a signet ring.

(Not an April Fool, btw, as the reports on this began yesterday).

I got flamed for saying this once before on here, but...

Rings on men very unsexy. The biggest, shiniest ones are worn by ugly blokes who seem to be demonstrating that Hey! look! I got someone! Then there are the quite good-looking men whose wives insist they wear them as if that'll keep off the predators.

Obviously dh doesn't wear a ring. That could be because I'm quite confident of his fidelity - or that I'm confident no-one else'd fancy him Grin

TheEarthIsFlat · 01/04/2011 10:52

Me & dp aren't even married (my choice) so have never thought about rings. When men want to wear rings it's lovely but some men look really uncomfortable (or tacky) wearing them.

Imagine the fuss if he did have one and lost it or forgot to put it on one day?

PortBlackSandwitch · 01/04/2011 10:52

I'm sure he could get hold of this

popAwheelie · 01/04/2011 10:57

I don't think it's a big deal. Lots of people don't like jewellery.

Maybe he will get K-A-T-H-E-R-I-N-E

tattooed on his back instead : )

fanjolina · 01/04/2011 10:58

I don't wear one. DH does. Doesn't make me any less married to him or care less for him.

silverfrog · 01/04/2011 10:59

swc - dh would beg to differ (am with you on the rules/understanding thing)

but then he is a furriner, so maybe is all different for the Europeans?

TobyLerone · 01/04/2011 11:00

This. But women do this too. Like "LOOK EVERYONE! SOMEONE WANTED ME!"

Ugh.

Bucharest · 01/04/2011 11:06

Maybe he has those serial-killer sausagey fingers?

LeonardNimoy · 01/04/2011 11:13

It's categorically nothing to do with being in the Forces! Why on earth would that mean you couldn't wear a wedding ring? Confused

I'm amazed people think this is news (I only posted because of the forces and wedding ring thing!)

TigerFeet · 01/04/2011 11:20

I hope he doesn't get Katherine tattooed on his back given that her name is Catherine Grin

My fil doesn't wear a ring. DH does. Sometimes I wear mine, sometimes I don't.

I know I'm married. I don't feel the need to have a symbol of that on display at all times

Each to their own on this one say I.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 01/04/2011 11:37

Well if they're using the 1662 BCP there isn't an opportunity for her to guv him one anyway Grin
