20% cuts in police funding. I don't get this

If you can't make a police officer reduntant, how can it save money to pension them off? Couldn't they be redeployed?

the ones being pensioned off those with over 30 years service - there is no obligation for forces to retain these officers.
in addition many "retire" as coppers, and then are re-employed as civilian staff, so can be got rid of easily.
